Al Wallace said Cam Newton will never be a franchise qb

Dude is still on his rookie contract while Peyton and Brady are in their upper 30's. How the hell people continue to try to compare the way Cam operates to these guys blows my mind.

it is all relative to the supposed money he will demand in comparison to the guys who make probably less than he will demand. to be consistent, you then must agree then money should not be in the 18-22mil range because Cam doesnt have enough experience yet, and I agree.

Performance does not equal money these days. Market demands equal money. Gettleman did a grand job driving his market price down.

Have you noticed lately that the Cam critics are the one's obsessing over Luck these days?

They always accuse people who support Cam as a franchise QB of being obsessed with Luck.

Now they are the people who bring his name up in every thread.

So i guess what the argument against Cam now is "he isn't as good as Manning and Brady are NOW (not 13 years ago) and he isn't the "best QB prospect in 20 years" like Luck, therefore he isn't a franchise QB and doesn't deserve a 2nd contract.

Fun fact about those three guys. Between the 3 of them you know how many cumulative Super Bowls they have won in the years they have thrown 30+ TDs?

One.

That is not really fair to Luck considering this is only his third year. So you can exclude him from that if you want.

Tom Brady has NEVER won a Super Bowl when he has thrown 30+ TDs and and Peyton has only won 1 Super Bowl.

Point being, Cam doesn't have to be those guys for us to win a Super Bowl.

And just because he isn't those guys doesnt mean he is not a franchise QB.

But the market has spoken and the QB market has been set. You are going to have to pay him to keep him.

And I think it is laughable that some of you guys act like Cam is just a dime a dozen QB where we "just get another young QB"

We have a young talented QB right now. Develop him.

If you are waiting for a QB that comes out and proves they are just as good as Manning and Brady within their first 4 years you will never be satisfied.

No QB would EVERY get a second contract by that stupid standard. Except maybe the best QB prospect in 20 years like Luck

Great post..

I still contest we don't know what Cam could be. What Manning, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees have had in weapons and proving offensive systems.. Is something Cam has not yet had..

I'm gonna play this card, I think a lot of it has to do with him being black. Now people may not consciously draw conclusions on him based on that but it certainly plays a factor. Andrew Luck wouldn't fare much better with Mike Shula and the decision making in the front office, but I feel he wouldn't face the same criticism.

It's no question if Cam was white he wouldn't face the same criticisms. Hell you could even look at the dolphins' forum with Tannenhill. He has shown flashes of good play but lots of bad play too yet they don't have as many dolphins fans complaining about all the mistakes he makes. They don't have fans who seem to be looking for him to fail and begrudgingly if at all praise him when he succeeds. Cam has a short lease because of his skin color in some fans and analyst minds. Let's just recognize that.
