Al Wallace said Cam Newton will never be a franchise qb

I'll refrain from saying that he's dead wrong for the time being because I want to see Cam play behind a strong o-line and in a system that suits his skill set. Cam was able to set rookie records because that system favored him, the play calling was successful and the players around him was suited for the system as well. Now granted, he's not Brady, Peyton or Rodgers but if we allowed him to be Cameron Newton he'd amaze...

My problem is I don't know if Cam can be these guys or not right now..

I don't know how you can make a judgement at this point in his career....

Cam has never been surrounded with the talent and coaching those guys have...

So how do we know he can't be a Brady, Manning, or Rodgers type???

If Gettleman and the Panthers move Cam Newton they BETTER BE RIGHT or else there really will be a full blown fan revolt.  If we miss with a replacement while Cam is having success elsewhere it would be a complete clusterfug for the entire organization

The only people to show up to games would be 50+ year old white dudes with their Derek Anderson jerseys on

I want them to put DA out there so people can understand how much dysfunction Cam is making up for.

You don't get the point. All this cry that Cam had never had weapons hence his passing numbers are not better than Dalton is hogwash. Dalton has only had AJ Green. Cam has had Smith, LaFell, Olsen and Shockey with the former three for his first three years here but his passing numbers are not better than Dalton.

You bring up what guys are doing in better schemes with better talent around them and acting like it's a apples to apples conversation...

Lafell looks good in the Pat's system because they have a competent  OC. Not to mention a solid OLine with 1st round quality OT.

Also when Cam had Shockey, Olsen, Lafell and Smitty, he broke every rookie passing record but again he only had that for 1 season... Dalton has had his guys for 4..

You can't open their eyes for them though unfortunately. I don't think some of these people even watch the games.

Was it the Tampa game where DA hurt his hand? I don't think many QB's could stay healthy behind this OL a full season.

LaFell has been a solid number two for us (better than Sanu has EVER been). Couple that with Smith and Olsen and that's three legit targets. That's weapons some teams don't have.

Of course it's not all on Cam and it's not all on coaching. It's somewhere in the middle but it's sad that people have to poo on the talent we've had to make Newton look good.

Its not quite that simple.  Our receivers certainly didn't play well and do seem to have trouble getting separation, but there were also times that Cam had open receivers but missed them and in one case, threw the ball away on second down when Tolbert had no one near him and would have had a 5-6 yard gain.

That being said, I think that Cam can be a solid quarterback, but we are going to have to put a better offense around him.  He might not ever be a QB who can carry a team the way Brady or Manning can, but he could be good enough to win with a good and consistent supporting cast.

Do you people not see the MARGIN OF ERROR IS TO THIN!!!!

If Cam isn't perfect we don't win....

No QB in the league could be successful in this situation..

No QB could carry this many problems on 1 team..

Bring up a name and i promise he had something that was consistent on the team that the QB can lean on or count on..

No Qb in NFL history has been asked to or overcame

1. Bad Oline

2. lack of pass catching options

3. No consistent running game

4. incompetent Play calling

5. Breakdowns by other parts of the team (defense and Special teams)

Please anybody give me the QB who was successful and carried all these things????

I'm waiting!!!

I really think Cam gets unfairly blamed. how can someone not look at this team and realize our issues are far from him. Is he perfect? No, not one QB is perfect. Can he get better? Yes! People seem to quickly forget how bad our QB play was before he got here. I was at a local bar sunday, and Bell had just let the opposing DE blast right past him and pop Cam. I hear another bar patron say, "See Cam sucks". I look at him with a puzzled face while watching the replay,'Yeah, that was Cam's fault the DE had a clear path to him". We just need to build around him. Let's get him an O line and an OC that doesn't using atari games to call his plays. Did you guys see how Peyton look in the Super Bowl when he didn't have time to pass? I believe he is a Franchise QB and he will only get better.

So based on this erudite assessment, don't you think it'll be sane to use any money we have to fix these problems rather than pay the QB top dollar only to have these problems persist?

Do we have Lafell right now???  Aren't we talking about this years team??? Are you saying Cam wasn't a good QB last year and didn't deserve his contract after last year???

Do you have any proof that you said last off season Cam doesn't deserve to be paid???

Do you not factor in Shula isn't nearly the play caller Mcdaniels is???

How about the Pat's having a WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY better OLine then us....

It's sane to say that Cam's 3 years before this year when he had a Avg. supporting cast proved he deserve his big pay day...

I'll go by the 1st 3 years and the 1st 5 games this season to form my opinion not the last 7 games when the whole team has fallen off..

What was your opinion before this season and do you have any proof of you saying all this poo before the season???

You made a claim that Cam has the best three year passing stats and I pointed you to Andy Dalton. Don't get the conversations mixed up.

I'm waiting on 1 person to name a QB who succeeded with

1. Bad Oline

2. Lack of pass catching option

3. Bad play calling and coaching decision

4. No running game

5. Breakdowns by the defense and special teams..

And I'm not just talking 1 or 2 or 3 of these things..

The QB has to have succeeded when all of these things were happening because that's what you want to judge Cam on...

The whole team has fallen off but let's pay one guy most of the money and bring in more scrubs and complain when it doesn't work?

I say let him play on the 5th yr option and the tag and continue to build the team.
