Al Wallace said Cam Newton will never be a franchise qb

I agree with Al. Cam has regressed a ton this season and lately he doesn't do anything praiseworthy. Even last year the offense was unreliable and was completely ineffective in the home playoff game.

Few will accept the possibility that Cam is a bust. This franchise really can't overcome it and people will cling to that last bit of hope until the final moment.

It's sad but Cam has been figured out, has lost a step and doesn't have the work ethic or mentality to bounce back.

How do you know this? Lemme guess.....Him having a towel on his head? Right?

No doubt it'd be a gamble to let Cam go and see if we can draft a solid QB. Bigger gamble than paying Cam top dollar and hoping it works out. Which is why the SENSIBLE thing to do is not pay Cam top dollar.

That said, what you said is the biggest issue with this board. In my, and others, opinion, Cam is not a playmaking, once-in-a-generation talent at QB.

And that's what derails these threads. We all know he's damn good, but some think he's going to be the best QB of all time if we surround him with the right help. And, that's your right to think that. Just as it's others right to think he'll never reach that level.

These threads will always be a waste of time because these two sides will never see eye to eye.

That is the QB market. If he is "damn good" you pay him.

Otherwise, what are we going to do? Expect every QB we draft to be "elite" within their first 5 years and if they aren't putting up Andrew Luck like numbers we just move on to the next young QB? Andrew Luck was billed as the best QB prospect in 20 years.

I mean, if we can't get behind the guy who has 107 TDs in not yet 4 seasons what the hell are we asking from our young QBs?

If you have a 25 year old that you claim is your guy, you have to pay market value. Based both off of what he has already shown, and what you expect him to be in the future, and what other QBs around the league are making.

107 TDs in 4 seasons. I think in 2010 the entire offense had like 11 TDs.

Don't franchise QBs usually have some WRs, an O-line to protect him and a running game to support them?

Aren't most of the franchise QBs we all recognize to be such given the opportunity to check out of a play called in from the OC?

Isn't the fact that both of the above statements aren't true in Carolina the biggest reason for Cam's lack of development?

I happen to agree with Al, but how I arrived at the conclusion is a bit different than his.

Yes! Pay the man so we can provide him with no weapons for years to come. Yes, let's pay a QB that kind of money that can't even make all the throws. I have a feeling we are going to be making excuses for Cam his whole career until he retires.

Yup lets never pay any quarterback ever because we will assume we can't afford any other weapaons. It's amazing how somehow these other teams pay quarterbacks and get them weapons but according to our genius fans we will never be capable of doing so.

Cam Newton ,like all players, will be evaluated and evaluated good, before we sign him to a commanding salary, you can count on that. How his final evaluation will grade out is presently anyones guess.

If  Cam gets a better supporting cast and  reverts to the QB  we all had hoped he would become, the decision to pay him a huge salary will be a simple one.

However,if he still continues to have the same issues that he has shown this year, by being innaccurate passing, making slow or bad decisions, slower running ability ,uneven emotions during games, etc, then i expect Gettleman and Richardson to look for another answer at QB.

Do you know that Steve Smith has more yds than AJ Green this year? Even Brandon LaFell has more yds than him.

Mohammed Sanu? Sanu? Sanu is a weapon? hahahahaha. Do yourself a favor and check his career stats before you continue.

This notion that Cam does not have weapons is so funny. Mohammed Sanu is a weapon? The only weapon Dalton has had will be AJ Green. Cam has had Shockey, Olsen, Smith and LaFell (who is WAY better than Sanu). So keep telling yourself that Dalton has been better than Cam passing wise because of "weapons"

Had to quote...

Do you really believe...that the Panthers have better offensive potential than the Bengals?!? Cam holding back our offense more than Dalton does his?!?

Using Smith and LaFell stats THIS year to justify them being better than AJ Green, who has been injured, or Sanu, who isn't playing with Tom freaking Brady, is a horrible strategy.

How can ANYONE blame Cam with our O-line, RB, and WR situation?!?

Some people throw opinions around like that is going to solve the matter and no father discussion is necessary. Opinions are cheap in fact free.

No one knows how good/bad Cam will end up being. He was on a good team last year and played pretty good. He's on a lousy team and isn't looking so hot.

The kid had a rough off season. Got hurt in preseason. Hasn't had a chance since due to poor talent around him and horrible play calling.

I don't know what next year will bring but I would bet if Can is put in the right system (see Mr. Scot's thread from last week) threads like this won't be made.
