  1. 1. Should Gettleman be fired?

the only way steve doesn't absolutely buttfug this team with his salary would be if he took a straight up pay cut going in to this season. a big one at that.

oh and guess who would have all the leverage in those negotiations

Steve was on WFNZ a few weeks before he was cut and Marc asked him if he would take a paycut, they were talking about Cam's extension and other cap stuff. Steve literally laughed and said hell no. Steve said he'd already taken a cut and that he had a contract and he would not renegotiate it.

Steve Smith

first 4- 25 Rec, 429 Yd, 3 Td

last 8- 24 Rec, 390 Yd, 2 Td

Damn near 1000 yards with 4 games to go. But I guess that's retarded. LOL.  We will never know what effect having Smitty would have played this year for our offense.  Using Smitty as an example is not the best argument in support of G-man.

The Smith question has already been answered.  It's just another questionable decision among several that arose during the past offseason.  How about recycling your whole WR corps? Or,  trusting Cam's blind side to a couple of questionable vets. We were never going to be saved by the Bell this season with the decisions that were made during the offseason.

Kind of an offshoot to Zod's Rivera poll.

Like I said in another thread, for me it has been extremely difficult to separate Gettleman's failure with Ron Rivera's failure this year? After all, it's not like G-man put his coach (or his franchise QB) in the best position to win. As far as I'm concerned, the Gettleman-fan honeymoon is over.

Say what you want about money---blah blah blah---but G-man's work since the end of last season has been at best a gamble, and at worst just very perplexing. I suppose it's easy to be a Monday morning QB, but the problem is that a few key things that 95 percent of NFL types said would be a problem for us come this season actually were (are) big problems.

Personally, I am not saying that either Gettleman or RIvera should be fired due to the circumstances, but if either one or both are fired I am not going to cry about it. Ironically they both took a while to land their respective positions, so there is that parallel. Perhaps it's just part of the process of getting out from under Hurney magic. If that was the case, I just wish that someone had been honest and defined this as a year of rebuilding. But, I digress. G-man: up or down?

If you came out after a 12-4 year as a second seed in the NFC and claimed this year as a rebuilding year, the fanbase would have rioted and burned down b of a.

Keeping Steve Smith this year (making 2015 & 2016 salaries fully guaranteed) would've been a dumber decision than the contracts Hurney gave to D-Will & Stewart.

There was nothing "questionable" about it. It was the right move, & a no brainer. Also, Dave did not "gut" the WR corp. The only WR he cut was Steve. He simply did not overpay to resign LaFell & Ginn- both of whom were overpaid.

from a cap standpoint it's not questionable at all, actually.  the numbers were laid out very clearly in the exact post you quoted.

yeah the smith question has been answered, just not in the way you think it has.

Responding to valid questions with .gifs is stupid IMO.

Why include DWill? We can cut him June 1 and generate cap space.

We are in bad shape cap wise. That doesn't provide a built in excuse to suck for the next 2 years.

You are correct, it will save about 2m. The following year it will cost us about 2m for what would have been a voidable year.

Either way it is just another year of carrying a large amount of dead money on the books which is a sign of poor management in earlier years.

There are still thousands of people who would have rather had Smitty hear, giving us that 1000 yards per season.  But, Smith is really a dead issue now. It was brought up as a means to circumvent the real issue, and I guess make Gettleman about Steve Smith. The Steve Smith firing is a red herring that has been dead a a while now.

Seeing Cam get creamed this year is still very much an issue. Leaving your young franchise QB questionable weapons and virtually no solid protection is unforgivable. Who does that? The only answer is Dave Gettleman.

because you say it is?

charles johnson's 2014 cap figure: $11,220,000

deangelo williams: $6,000,000

jonathan stewart: $4,585,000

wanna know how many players from hurney's last five drafts are still on the roster?  i counted 7 including hardy and frank alexander.

I'd love to see how much cap those seven guys take up (not to mention all the dead money).

Total during Hurney's tenure not just the last 5 years still on the roster I count 12 draft picks.

Add Byron bell, Derek Anderson, JJ Jansen, Mike Tolbert, Gary Williams all Free Agents still on the roster.

Granted some are Getts' now on a 1 year deal only Tolbert and jansen belong to Hurney.

Probably missed some.

Then there's 25 million this year in dead cap money  mostly all Hurney's. Almost 20% of our cap space isn't on the roster.

We had no business Franchising Hardy for sure.
