  1. 1. Should Gettleman be fired?

Yeah I must have missed those games.

So I guess during those games Aaron Wilson talked about and that effort last week (1 catch for 2 yards) Smitty was giving it his level best?

(keep in mind that answering 'yes' basically acknowledges that it's his skills which are in decline rather than his effort)

poo happens. Players have bad games. Different games have different flows. That's how it is.

Of course his skills are declining, but he is still a productive receiver, regardless of how people want to cherry pick stats as opposed to looking at the overall production.

WR #1 isn't based on stats, it is based on where they line up the majority of the snaps.

Torrey Smith is the 1. Just bc 89 had a hot start doesn't change that. Which is why Torrey will have the better season when it is all over

He had pretty much an entire season of 'bad days' last year.

(oh, but I'm sure if we'd have brought him back for his full salary this year would have been different)

Based on the roster he assembled this year, yeah, he probably does deserve to be fired for it.

However, we can't fire him.  He said he needed three years, give him his three years.  Put another dumpster fire out there on the field next year though and see ya later.

If we fired him right now, no one would be jumping to take that job after seeing Gettleman get fired after only two seasons, one of those being a 12-4 season.  Let's just hope he learned his lesson this season and is eating a fat slice of humble pie.

No one knows how it would have been because that was taken from us.  Like I stated at the time, I would have liked to have seen what Smitty would have done as a role player in his final years here, so of course I didn't want him to cut Smitty. But, like I also said at the time, my main issue is how 89 was cut. I always understood why he was cut.  No need to downplay Smitty's production every chance you get in order to validate Gettleman's decision. Smitty's firing was ostensibly for other reasons. Remember?

Perhaps if G-man had kept Smitty and drafted a WR1 in the second round (like an Allen Robinson, Devante Adams, or Donte Moncrief for example), then Smitty could have been used exclusively in the slot where he could have roasted defenses.

If if if. You see? There's really no need to deal in those is it?

Lastly, this thread is not directly about Smitty. He is but a part. It's really about G-man's decision making and rationale this past offseason (and the overall position to succeed/fail that he is responsible for placing the Panthers in).

That blame goes to the system and the play caller. I don't remember any WR in a Shula offense putting up numbers do you?
