  1. 1. Should Gettleman be fired?

I just don't support renting a player for $13 million for one year. I just can't.

you had no problem signing him long term. We actually saved money by only renting him.

But you can't support that. Lol

Then find another team.

Sounds like to me you are just looking for reasons to hate.

I say yes. I don't care that I am in the minority here.

I defended Gettleman a month or so ago, but his inability to step in and do anything at all to right the sinking ship has shown me more and more that he isn't a good GM.

Obviously Rivera shoulders much of the blame, but Gettleman does too at this point.

The Smitty situation left a bitter taste in my mouth that I overlooked. The Hardy situation was a debacle. The Avant signing and release was obviously a GM failure. The Cotchery signing was a bandaid that hasn't panned out. The secondary was totally neglected or even made worse. The OL was totally neglected and, as a result, Cam has suffered a huge setback in his growth this season. It might even be irreparable damage.

Do I think he deserves to go? Absolutely. Do I think he will? Probably not. The Panthers' problems start at the very top and the attitude that mediocrity is okay and that success is over-rewarded.

If Jimmy Clausen would have panned out, no one would have complained.

If Everette Brown would have panned out, no one would have complained.

If Dwayne Jarrett would have panned out, no one would have complained.

If Amini Silatolu would have panned out, no one would have complained.

If Jeff Otah would have panned out, no one would have complained.

If Sione Fua would have panned out, no one would have complained.

I often times agree with you, I enjoy your posts, but that is a terrible argument. Of course if Armanti Edwards had panned out, nobody would have complained. That logic applies to every pick and trade in the history of the NFL draft. As it turns out, Edwards didn't pan out. We traded a 2nd round pick to move into the 3rd round for 5 receptions and 121 yards. It was a terrible move.

All I am saying if you want to bash Hunrney have at it....

Claiming he was a bad drafter isn't where you start. By NFL standards....he simply wasn't bad at it. All GMs do some frustrating things in the draft process over years.

Hurney was a bad GM for basically everything else that related to being a GM....not his drafting. Not from a hitting on talent perspective.

Gettlemen was unable to find gems in the dumpster this season, but he still had to try.  People here have forgotten just how ludicrous Marty Hurney's last 2 years were--He had the league--and players like DW and CJ literally laughing when asked about their contracts.  Hurney buried this team for 5 years on his way out.  Blame Gettlemen?

This thread is filled with incredibly short sighted people. The same people that still loved Hurney until the bitter end.

The difference between G-Man's fug ups this year and all of Hurney's? G-man has only screw us up for one season, whereas we are still going to be bent over a barrel until 2016 from Hurney. There are no long term mistakes from the deals G-Man has made. Unfortunately the idiots around here think because we aren't in the playoffs this year doing the same thing we did last year he should be fired.

I weep for this fan base at times. I really do.

Avant and Cotchery are coaching failures.  Both of them are solid possession receivers that our coaches have tried to use like deep threats.  You say we needed a speed receiver to play Smitty's role?  No problem.  We have one, but up till recently we only used him on punt returns.

Likewise, Rivera's scheme has always been heavily pass rush dependent, and losing Hardy hurt but was only part of the problem.  Charles Johnson has not been himself all year (likely due to injury).  With our scheme being a zone blitz, the ideal thing to do would have been to adjust the pressure schemes and start blitzing more.  That didn't happen.

Newton?  When was the last time you saw him roll out?  We had offensive line issues a few years ago facing the Vikings with Matt Moore as our quarterback.  The coaching staff made the decision to move him around a lot to try and keep the pressure off of him.  Why hasn't that been done here?

Good coaching could have come up with adjustments for every single adversity we've faced this season.

We don't have good coaching.
