Rivera says punt blocks on personnel, not coaching

How many blocked punts have we had this year...other than this game? I can't think of any.

So, why would you not think that what you are doing is working.

The Vikings did something different and we did not react to it. That is PLAYER execution.

Rivera has made enough mistakes this season to warrant his release....but the blocked punts are on the players not doing what they were supposed to do.

Sproles said he said holes open enough to return a punt return for a TD, showing coaching issues. Pacman returned a huge one on us, something he hasn't done in years. Then, we give up, not only two punt blocks, but large yardage on another two returns. The Vikings coaches said that was planned due to watching film all week.

turns out, we've given up a large chunk of return yardage to almost every team we've faced. Our special teams is poor. That's on coaching.

Don't get me wrong...as I said, the coaching staff has done way more than enough to warrant being released.

My point is that this is player execution as well as coaching.

Right now, everyone hates Rivera and Co so bad that everything that goes wrong is being blamed on them.  My point is that coaching AND player execution is lacking on this team.

Can you imagine if Rivera was in a market like New York or Philly and gave some of these answers in press conferences?  He would never get away with it. We have a bunch of pussies in the local media who are afraid to challenge him because they fear the wrath of Jerry.

@BlackBlueReview: “We’re not going to do anything knee jerk, we’re going to go through the process.” — Rivera

I wonder would this still be he stance if our division wasn't so horrible & we were 5 games behind 1st place in the NFCS? Because its pass knee jerking time Ronnie boy.

It is all coach speak and a play on words.

Vikings watched filmed. Saw a weakness. Gameplanned it.

Technically you can blame anything on execution and a player. Vikings gameplanned so that they would put our guys in a spot to not execute. Coaching 101.

    • I complete disagree. Who is available is extremely relevant. If you have a couple of players you would be happy with and you can still get them if you trade back, you should do that in a heartbeat. Being afraid that people will lowball you next year is an odd stance. Then you just say no next year, problem solved. In this particular draft you can get a very good player at 46. But to each their own.
    • I don't think so.  Watson really screwed them up.  I see something happening, but do not know what.  Cousins could be had in a trade--but they liked Flacco when he played there.  If it were me, I would not spend the #2 pick on Sanders.  I would go after a tier 2 qb because I think Will Howard is going to start in the NFL soon, and I think Ewers was rated very high at the beginning of the year--he knows adversity and he beat out a Manning while taking Texas to 2 playoff appearances.  I am not good at picking QBs, but I think Howard's run pass option and his accuracy is going to help someone.  Stay in Ohio and play for the Browns behind Flacco--
    • After Cam at #1, there are three or four elite players and there could be a trade--If I am the Giants and I am needed a winning season badly and I have several needs, I might trade out and pick up mid first and an extra second rounder, including a QB--while nobody is going to move up to #3 for Sanders, they might for Carter or Hunter.  If the Giants then move back, Sanders could still be in play.  That could be the trade in the top 3.  New England wants Campbell and I get that; Jacksonville at #5 could move back if someone wants Graham or Jeanty.  But barring some trade, the top 4 are probably locked in. So it could be 2 hours into the draft before we get any surprises. Nice list, by the way--you nailed it.
