Hornets aggressively looking to upgrade Wing/Power Forward - Appear to be looking to move Stephenson

Bad Buzz: What’s Wrong With the Hornets and How They Might Fix It

Things are not going well in Charlotte. But fans who expected a leap forward upon the return of the teal can take solace in two things:

1. The Hornets play in the East. Any roster sitting at 4-14 would be toast in the West, save for the very unique situation in which an injury-depleted contender reincorporates two of the league’s 10 best players. But the Hornets have played the second-toughest schedule of any Eastern Conference team, with a four-game West Coast road trip and a bunch of home dates against Western Conference heavyweights already in the rearview. Things will get better, even with Charlotte’s bricky offense and a once-stout defense that has sprung gaping holes in all the wrong places.

2. The Hornets have been aggressive making trade calls, according to sources across the league.

The Hornets are searching for upgrades on the wing and at power forward, per those sources, and they are willing to talk turkey on basically anyone other than Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson. Free agents signed this past offseason can’t be traded until December 15, and few would be surprised if the Hornets make and take calls on Lance Stephenson ahead of that trigger date.

Stephenson is an easy scapegoat, and that’s partly his own doing. His body language has been horrible, and that degrades morale. He pouts when he doesn’t get the ball on the weak side, flapping his wings and looking skyward as if his teammates have wronged him. He steals rebounds, and he hot dogs with the ball at times.

A lot coming out at once. I'll update the thread with anything else that comes out.

Kemba is playing beside a ball hog SG who can't shoot to save his life and other wings who can't shoot. If Charlotte would put shooters on the floor Kemba would magically look a lot better. Chris Paul and Steph Curry would struggle playing in a backcourt with Lance & Hendo.

Kemba is a good player- nothing more, nothing less. He's a borderline top 10-12 PG who has a reasonable contract- $12m will be nothing after the new TV deal takes effect. He's good enough at the PG position. You don't win championships with a "superstar" PG, or even top 5 PG. Magic was the exception.

I'm more worried that MKG wasn't mentioned as an untouchable. I'd rather trade Kemba AND Al than get rid of MKG. Both short term and long term.

I think it's obvious Lance is gone, though. I don't think Charlotte ever had any intention of keeping him. IMO, they wanted Heyward and after they missed on him they signed Lance on a bargain contract for the sole purpose of having a trade asset. Kind of shitty thing to do, but a good business move. There were no other options for Chatlotte to get better. They were proactive and got a talented player who could be used to help upgrade the roster down the road.

Read on SB Nation

"Aggressive making trade calls"

"Basically willing to trade anyone but Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson"

"Few would be suprised if Charlotte takes and makes calls for stephenson before Dec. 15, the 1st day he can be traded"

Also said MKG very unlikely to move.

I don't like that Kemba and Al are "untouchable," but they got us to the playoffs last year so I can live with it for now. I would prefer to "blow it up" but this isn't 2k.

If they can move lance for one of those "needs" they should do it, but I worry that they will give up some of our young surplus and push us further into a 2010-esque roster.

If there's one thing Cho does well, it's trades. Hakim Warrick for McBob and Ben Gordon for what ended up being a top ten pick and cap space.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
