report: Jets and Raiders looking to trade for Harbaugh

Rivera will be here next season. We should all come to terms with that.

I get your reason for saying this but I just can't see how management can justify keeping him with all the evidence that indicates that Rivera is not going to pan out. It will cost the team more financially to ride out his contract than to just eat it and move on.

As defensive coordinator!!! That would be one of the best things to happen to this franchise in a while. Get a good offensive minded HC and our sh*t HC but beast DC demoted to DC.

Expounding on Thomas96's point....

If we offered Rivera the DC job: 1) would a HC do that within the same organization? and 2) how would that affect locker room morale, i.e. would there be a power struggle with new HC and and Rivera as DC?

Interesting logistics even if it's not plausible.

I would assume that a new HC would want to hire his own DC and not have one appointed to him.

I think there would be very little chance that a new HC would want to retain any former staff, especially the former head coach.

If Rivera goes, he's done in Carolina. Besides, after the way our defense has been giving up points to blowouts week in and week out, do we really want Rivera in charge of the defense anymore? That's supposed to be his best area, and it's uhhh pretty ugly right now.

Rivera won't be our DC. He's gone if he loses the hc position. Why would he stay. He can go to many places and get a fresh start. The chemistry of it all is impossible.

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

You know Mr Scot, I would normally agree with you on this. However, I just don't see this organization taking a chance and moving on from Rivera. They will point to injuries and salary cap as the scapegoat. They should bring in an HC/OC to maximize the player they claim to be the franchise QB, but I fear they won't. Unless there is a come to Jesus moment, this franchise is going to be run as a "defense wins championships" team. They don't have the guts to build a high powered offensive AND a stout defensive team. It's sad but I fear it's reality that Ron is back for at least 2015.
