A thought about the Panthers fan base...

I was listening to sportstalk radio today, and all you heard about was Brett Favre and Michael Vick. It was stated that since the Vikings signed Favre, they sold thousands of season ticket packages and single game tickets. All home games were now expected to sell out. So...the Panthers games were all sold out in less than two weeks except maybe a preseason game, to my knowledge. Panthers' tickets are always hard to come by when they go on sell to the public, due to the amount of PSLs that are aleady sold. I thought that speaks volumes for our fan base when our tickets sell out much faster than a team like the Vikings who have been around for ever and have a strong fan base. Am I right or looking at this the wrong way? Just a thought...

we are also surrounded by fans of teams that we play. ones that wouldn't give up their original team the inaugural year of their home team. i really hope to see no philly fans on opening day, but I know it is inevitable. same goes for Atl and Was. So the day that tickets go on sale to the general public there are fans of several teams trying to buy.

When we have years long waiting lists for tickets, then we can consider our fan base one of the best. But yeah, we're currently a hotter product than what they offer in the Twin Cities.

Charlotte is an migrant city, half our population is from somewhere else. Which is why I think the seats get empty when we are losing and many people dont stay till the end.

It takes some time for fans to fully adpot the Panthers.

I have been in Carolina for 13 years now and this is the first season I am not getting DIRECT TV to follow the Bills.

I have followed the Panthers since Ive been here and its been easy to also route for the Panthers because they are in a different conference from the Bills.

I will always be a Bills fan, but they will finally be in the back seat to the Panthers from now on. (FIGURES THEY PLAY EACH OTHER THIS YEAR IN CHARLOTTE !!)

If the Panthers didn't sell PSLs,I wonder if the games would sell out?

Good question. I've always figured that the PSL's kept the season ticket base high because people would not want to give up their investment.

HOWEVER, the Vikes had to do everything they could think of to sell out their PLAYOFF game last year. That never happens here in Charlotte. That fan base up there has really taken a turn for the worst.

    • If he was a vet or had 3 years of full playing time in college, it would be different, I'd lean more on the side of caution.  But this is someone who now over the last 4 years, has really only played in games for one of them as he had 51 combined carries his first two years in college. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs reps and he needs them this year, he can't miss another year without meaningful game snaps. The knee is structurally sound at this point being a year out from injury and today's tech/rehab capabilities.  Sure his lack of game shape could lead to pulled muscles or something, but it's not going to put him at risk of a more serious injury to give him 10-15 carries right out of the gate. Also, we need see what he's got, to know if he's going to be able to handle a 3 down role next year before the offseason.  Because if he can, then we shouldn't be re-signing Hubbard as he's earned a decent contract from someone next year.   We can't give that out to a guy who will end up being a backup to someone on a rookie deal, it's a place we can save money to spend elsewhere for a few years, as we could get a much cheaper backup option in free agency or even draft someone else in like the 5th round to be his backup and really save money at the position.
    • Imagine if we have a defensive draft next year that's just as good...
