in the context of football discussions etc I don't think it is that extreme. I think Rivera has been cowardly at times this season.

Um, no. You said it directly to his Twitter account through the mask of anonymity and likely hurt his daughter in the process. If the actual Ron Rivera was standing in front of you, you would wish him good luck and ask for an autograph if you weren't cowering in fear.
