Does Cam want to go?

No, I'm not. I thought I made that pretty clear when I said the only people talking about that know poo and exist here on the huddle.

No you didn't.  You didn't answer.

That said, good, I'm glad you are looking at this rationally.

Also, we aren't the only folks talking about it, as referenced by the links.

I don't think anyone on either side is looking at this particularly rationally, especially considering the state of our franchise.

I am in favor of Newton getting paid big time.

No. 1: Newton got shafted by the rookie wage scale and has every reason to now look out for No. 1

No. 2: It is not Newton's fault that this Front Office seems intent on giving him the least amount of resources as possible. I will say it again. The Jags have done more for Blake this past draft than the Panthers have done for Newton in 4 years. The Colts, in Luck's first year, have done more for him than the Panthers have ever done for Newton.

The QB that comes close to Cam as far as lack of offensive talent is Wilson and Bradford. But EVEN in those cases those teams have at least ATTEMPTED to provide their QB help. In the case of Wilson, Percy simply didn't work out.

If I am Newton or his agent, the Panthers either need to tag me, or sign me to a long term term deal along the lines of a top 7 QB.

You already got me for a bargain my first 4 years...it is not my fault you did nothing meaningful to upgrade an offense that was the worst in the NFL the year I arrived, and it is also not my fault that you have an philosophy of putting all our resources into the defense.

I do want Cam here long term. I don't think he's even close to the biggest problem here. (In fact, I'd go so far as to say Cam isn't part of the problem at all unless you consider the fact that he isn't perfect a flaw)

I just don't think any of the QBs are worth the crippling salaries they are getting nowadays. I'd rather see him walk than give him a contract that handcuffs the team.

With this opinion, should I or should I not procreate?

The salaries are obviously ballooning and an issue...but it's the direction EVERY team is going to have to go, if they're lucky enough to find a franchise QB (or even a half decent QB). Personally, with a team around him, I also like Cam better than the Cutlers/Flaccos/Daltons/Kaeps of the world. Wilson and Luck will get deals on par with Cam, while guys like Brady/Manning are in the same range, or would be if not on friendlier deals due to being on the way out in a couple of years.

Essentially, half the teams in the league will be paying 18-20 million (I'll use these numbers since it's primarily what I see as Cam's range) or more for their QB...a trend? Perennial contenders are those teams. The outlier? As I said, guys like Brady/Manning or the guys who have been locked into deals BEFORE the contracts started jumping. And yes, I know that Super Bowl winners haven't featured big money QBs lately (that is a whole different topic), but overall, it's better to have one than not.

With the salary cap rising, I have no issue giving Cam 18-20 million a year. Pay your QB, or you start over every 3 to 4 years with a roll of the dice in the draft, unless you want to settle for a mediocre option and hope to be a team like the Cardinals...consistently. And good luck with that.

Ruling, you can make babies. But who wants that?

This seems reasonable.

Since Cam didn't make as much as Bradford, I want to overpay for his services.....

At this point I don't think it's as much does he want to leave, it's more of a where does he want to go that would be better?  There might be opportunities in Dallas, Denver, Arizona, Houston, etc...teams that already have pieces in place that will need or might already need a QB.  Carolina is a joke of a franchise that has a franchise QB like Cam Newton but barely put any resources around him to succeed.  He has no reason to stay.

No. 1. Just because I would potentially side with Newton does not mean that the Panthers should give into Newton or his agent. But I am in favor of Newton looking out for No. 1. Just as I am sure the Panther's will look out for their bottom line.

No. 2. Newton would not be overpaid unless he makes more than say Manning or Rodgers.

What I am absolutely not in favor of his Newton giving the Panther's any sort of discount because 1) they already got a discount and 2) have shown no ability even with said discount to surround Newton with talent.

This may be the closest I have ever seen to a Cam fan vs. a Panthers fan.
