Does Cam want to go?

I typed that up kind of fast, but the point remains. Are we going to argue over something trivial or keep with the point?

3 years is pathetic. Especially considering a team like the Colts managed to do so for Andrew Luck with T.Y. Hilton in the same draft.

Also, kind of pointless to mention Smith and Lafell considering we cleared them and every other WR out while Newton headed into a contract year. That wasn't exactly helpful. And one of the WR's who was supposed to "replace" the departures was also ran out of town.

Again, we had a fan favorite in Smith, (like Wayne), and a solid no. 2 (like TY although different skill sets), and we drafted a freak after 3 seasons.

Also added Shockey and Olsen in year 1, the biggest disservice is the OL, but that come from thinking that RB's make the running game, and OL don't.  It's a flawed concept, that Hurney loved to use.

I will agree with you that we could have, and probably should have done more, but at the same time, I need to see more from Cam as well.

The Panthers need to sign Cam long term, and I think that they will, however, if he wants a top 5 QB deal, and all kinds of guaranteed money, he will be shown the door, when the team is ready to move on.

Newton looked damn good to start the season before the already experience lacking OL began to suffer injuries. Once that started to fall apart, so did everything else. Your QB has to be able to trust his line, and you need veterans on said line, we are sorely lacking that.

If you are going to use this season to ultimately pass judgement on Newton moving forward, then apply that to every other player, because we have struggled mightily from top to bottom. By that argument we may as well just blow up the whole roster, which is obviously foolish.

We have seen what Newton and the Benjamin/Olsen/Brown combo can do. Shore up the OL, and get an OC with even a shred of creativity that doesn't consist of "run, run, pass, punt" every drive. If we can do that, I think we could get by with Olsen, Benjamin, and Brown.

I'm not passing judgement on Cam after 1 season, I'm using every single game that he has played in.

Cam needs to clean up a few things before he is paid like a top 5er.  That's all there is to it.  Cam is going to have to get better from the pocket, or he will be an inconsistent QB for his entire career.

Again, I think that Cam is the answer here, but not for top 5 money.

The only people I know of talking about Newton being paid like a top 5 QB exist right here on the huddle, and they know absolutely poo.

If you don't want Cam here long-term, or think he's the biggest problem...don't procreate.

The people who think this probably don't know the word "procreate", though.

I do want Cam here long term. I don't think he's even close to the biggest problem here. (In fact, I'd go so far as to say Cam isn't part of the problem at all unless you consider the fact that he isn't perfect a flaw)

I just don't think any of the QBs are worth the crippling salaries they are getting nowadays. I'd rather see him walk than give him a contract that handcuffs the team.

With this opinion, should I or should I not procreate?

Considering we know nothing of contract numbers that have been specifically discussed, I'd say don't procreate just yet.

Are you in favor of paying him top 5 QB money?

That said, here are a few tidbits.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24749479/cam-newton-uninterested-in-pay-as-you-go-contract-with-panthers

Sources said Newton's talks with the Panthers did not extend far but the team understood that signing him long-term would require a substantial full guarantee, much more in the $50-plus million rage that top quarterbacks have achieved, and without a structure that would allow the team to in essence procure Newton's long-term rights but retain the ability to easily cut him after any given season.

Cutler, 31, the 11th overall pick in 2006, didn’t receive a signing bonus from the Bears. But the first three years of the deal are guaranteed for $54 million – an average of $18 million a year that Corry believes Newton will command.

“I think $18 million (a year) gets you in the game for Cam, with $50 million in guarantees,” Corry said.

I love Cam, but when you look at the top 5 money guys, Cam just isnt even close... yet. He has a lot to learn. I mean if Brady's contract is 5 yrs for $70mil, how could one justify paying Cam 6 years for $120 or whatever the assumed amount is going to be? We all scoffed at the Bengals and 9ers, think at all the other fans that will do the same if the Panthers shelled out that money for a guy with less track record. I know Cam is hurt but he sure isnt putting this team on his back this year like the top 5-10 guys would.

The article cites "sources" and claims that he supposedly wants $50+ million guaranteed yet also plainly states that there have been no negotiations between him or the Panthers yet. I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm putting pretty much no stock in that, too much speculation.

OK, so just a couple posts ago the "only people talking about that kind of money are right here on the huddle"......

Could that number, over 50M guaranteed, be precisely why their not in "negotiations"?

Sounds to me like he wants top dollar, and more of a "standard" contract than what Dalton and Kap got handed.

Speculation, yes, but answer the question.

No, I'm not. I thought I made that pretty clear when I said the only people talking about that know poo and exist here on the huddle.
