The Panthers previous coaching departures came after the following seasons:

1998 (4-12)

2001 (1-15)

2010 (2-14)

In every case, the head coach was fired after the season where they produced their worst record.

Rivera's worst record to date has been 6-10 (in his first season).

Also worth noting that John Fox, the team's most successful patch to date, is also the only one who's lasted longer than four seasons.

With the exception of the one coach who had a Super Bowl trip on his resume', we haven't historically been a patient organization.

football sundays are a decompression time for me, ironically enough given how they play. in the middle of trying to stay ahead of full-time grad school, full-time work, full-time kid and marriage, and managing rental properties the couple hours a week i can drop everything and sprawl on the coach with beer and pizza are invaluable. i can't stop watching even when we suck.

 

hell i'm about to find a way to finagle my way into watching the game next week in the middle of flights and airports. i can't not.

It is interesting.

Obviously in the Caper era JR was extremely aggressive and wanted to win badly now as was demonstrated by the Vet Free Agent signings and quick roster build up and second year Playoff run as opposed to our expansion brother Jaguar model which was to build young through the draft.

 

Seifert just plain sucked for 3 years.

 

Fox was a blend of draft and careful plug in vet FAs and had intermittent success good enough to keep his job and get an extension as well. Finally in the end retaining our own in house Vets became philosophy/priority and were given 2nd contracts so rich in guaranteed money it almost excludes us to this day from Free Agency excluding cheap 1 year prove it contracts.

 

JR's philosophy really has changed through the years and I'm not sure what he might have done in 2001 has much bearing on today.

Interesting thing about the Jag versus Panther philosophy.

in 1996 our average roster age was 27.8 years, the Jaguars was 25.9 years.

We would make the Playoffs once from 96 to 99.

The Jags made the Playoffs all 4 of those years.

The chance of Ron staying is much higher than people on here believe, only because our X factor, Mr. Jerry "Hey hey now let's wait a couple years until his contract runs out before we decide we want to sign another head coach" Richardson is the owner. He defies all logic and evidence in favor.

JR is not as cheap as some people act like he is. I would not be shocked at all if Ron Rivera is fired and he should be

 

Yeah. And Rivera, has to remember it's his fault.

 

Why? Cause, he sat by and doodled his fingers while Chip Kelly, Bruce Arians, and Andy Reid came off the table one by one, just for him to personally lecture, but nonetheless retain Rivera weeks after the season ended.
