Is this the worst team in franchise history?

I'd argue that the 2006 team was more disappointing, and possibly 2004 before Smitty got hurt. We all knew last year was fluky and some regression was bound to happen, but the 04 and 06 teams had solid foundations and underachieved.

Granted, this team is awful, but no one in their right mind should have expected similar success after watching last year and this past off season. I do think it reasonable to expect them to at least be competitive, but the talent is clearly not there across the roster and the coaching sure isn't either.

2006 is the forgotten year on this site.

I think that one was more disappointing. Like imagine if we followed up last season by doing what everyone in this fanbase wanted in FA and the draft but still missed the playoffs and looked just as listless and unfocused doing it. That was 2006

I think Mr.Scott broke it down best, most teams are not loaded but there system compensates. We have a system that henders talent.

Perhaps, but I think that at this point we are less talented than most of the top teams.  And definitely less talented than we were last year.  And less experienced as well.  Benjamin is talented, but plays like a rookie.  Cotchery should be coming in on 3rd downs.  Brown may have talent, but he has a lot to learn.  Losing Jordan and Wharton is no small thing as well.  Lots of replacements on the defensive side as well, although the loss of Hardy was not the fault of the team.

Last year we won our division.   But the difference between winning and losing in the NFL is thin.  If you let nearly half your team go, you better replace them with players that are similar in talent and experience.  We did not, and its a significant cause of our problems.

Last year we had more talent than most teams and still could not win a playoff game because our coaches stink. This year we got a below average team and well as you see its bad. The NFL is about adjusting to your players and Rivera can't. Maybe he should try his had at college coaching where he has more overall talent.

The reason this season hurts more (for me) than 2010 was the expectations and quality of season last year.  We weren't exactly barn burners in 2009 and while some of us thought Matt Moore would save us all, it's not like we were coming off the playoffs going into 2010.

This team, while it doesn't have a ton of talent and has markedly less than last year, still has a decent amount of talent at key positions that it shouldn't be playing as badly as it is.
