Apartment broken into, need advice

Seems the apartment complex has sufficiently addressed the issue by installing a steel reinforced door frame and evicting the residents who were incapable of finding their own home when drunk.

If the neighborhood is as safe as you contend, you and your girlfriend's concerns should now be allayed. On the other hand, if the neighborhood is filled with inebriated idiots, it is well past time to locate a better community to call home.

Door frame: A steel door frame only works if the door is also steel. That being said, the core of an exterior steel door is wood and the block insert the deadbolt and lockset is set into is also wood. Unfortunately, one of the 2 is going to give, either the wood frame or the wood core to a steel door.

Alarms: Yeah, great. If you want to sit around and wait for someone to respond, wake up the neighbors, hope someone does something or hope it scares the person off.

Guns: I've posted this a couple times, but my wife is 5'4" and she uses this shotgun as well as I. The pistol grip makes a huge difference in her ability to handle it. Point and shoot from the waist, hip or shoulder. It's not cheap, the Benelli M4 Tactical MSRPs for about $1800. I paid $1500 for mine a few years back and love it. 18.5" barrel and 40" overall.

I have a Baretta 92F Custom with a 15 round clip and a fat grip because I'm a pretty big guy. My wife can't handle this with both hands, so she carries a Taurus 738TCP .380 which is a 6+1 and she is very quick with it.

If there's a downside, I can't handle her pistol because my hand about swallows it and she can't handle mine. But we're both pretty proficient with the 12ga.

Are you suggesting he lives in a 400sf, 1-bedroom weekly rate room over the bar?

If she feels safer with a gun and can use it, by all means do that. I doubt that will give (or anyone) any greater relief; it does provide an option in the event of another "break in," which is what you're trying to assure her won't happen again. I don't see how a gun communicates that, though.
