Avatar was better than the prequel trilogy and the new Star Wars movies have yet to be seen whether they'll be good or not. Regardless, all of them should be better than the other movies coming out these days as most of them are horrible.

Epic film is a style of film-making with large scale, sweeping scope and spectacle, often transporting the viewer to other settings.

 

By definition it is.

One of the first requirements for being considered an "epic" film is whether or not the basis for the film ripped off FernGully of all movies.

 

Avatar is therefore immediately excluded from consideration. Sorry.

I was under the impression that people can formulate their own opinions, and that whether somebody likes something or not is their opinion. I guess not...

I liked Avatar.  Not as much as Star Wars, but still an excellent film. 

 

 

As far as ripping off another film, most movies these days are inspired by other films.  Star Wars was inspired by Flash Gordon  among other thing.  Maybe it ripped off Flash. 

 

I wonder if the owners of Ben Hur should sue George Lucas for ripping off their Chariot/Pod racing scene?

Yeah, but Flash Gordon and serialized movies were way better as films and inspirations than Ferngully.  That movie still makes me randomly cut down trees for shits and giggles.
