Rolling Stone Lists Top 15 Owners In Sports

Worst owners correction. Can you guess who's on the list?

Coming in at number 11

Looks like someone molded a human shape out of an unguent containing racist e-mail forwards, Greek yogurt and hatred, although he may also be Mumbles from Dick Tracy. Richardson got $87.5 million in public money (and may get $50 million more) for renovations to a then 17-year-old stadium financed with $50 million in public land and relocation fees. A true no-nonsense ethicist, he didn't lift a finger about Greg Hardy's domestic abuse until well after Ray Rice's beating of his fiancée in an elevator ruined the optics for every other give-no-fu*k NFL owner. Richardson was also a hardliner over locking out both the players and the referees for their out-of-control salaries despite pocketing millions in profit the preceding two seasons. He also reportedly once sneeringly responded to Peyton Manning's concerns about concussions with, "What do you know about player safety?" Later, heading into the 2011 lockout, he harnessed every wealthy Tea Party victim stereotype by saying that it was time for the owners to "take back our league." As a former NFL player, that makes him both a hypocrite and a vampire.

Laugh if you want but it is all true. JR is a dud of an owner who doesn't give a rat's ass about winning, just show me the money.

And again, people don't get it.

Everyone who has any experience actually working with Jerry Richardson would tell you he cares a great deal about winning.  He's also hardly a miser given that he's about the only owner who didn't lay off a single person from his team's staff during the lockout.  Lots of owners did just that to save costs, but Richardson chose instead to take care of his employees.  The whole dumbass notion that he's just some Scrooge who doesn't care about winning is something only the uninformed hold on to.  That's never been the problem.

The problem isn't motive.  It's execution.

His biggest missteps have included giving his son Mark a prominent position on the team, Dom Capers full control, handing the reins to George Seifert, hiring a GM that wasn't a football guy, staying loyal to that GM even through consistently bad results (largely because that GM was loyal to him), disastrously bad PR during the lockout and coach hiring processes and fostering an 'inmates run the asylum' atmosphere by telling Jeff Davidson he wasn't even allowed to talk to Steve Smith.

Richardson absolutely wants to build a winner, but he's done a lousy job trying, generally by choosing the wrong people for their jobs.

Happily, I think he finally got it right with Dave Gettleman, and I believe if Gettleman has enough power (to which the cut of Steve Smith would testify affirmative) then he can right the ship.

Might take time and might hurt along the way, but it could happen.

The fact that we only see and hear from the groundhog once a year is all we nee to know!

But when it came to screwing with his wallet he was the most vocal owner during the lockout.

JR's time has come. He could do us all a favor and just sell the team now and save face.

Had the guy tell me once he was going to bring me tickets to a game after I detailed his car, never happened and as little as it matters a man of his word is just that. And considering the non-impact to his wallet of that gesture and the fact he never made good on his promise told me all I needed to know.

Dude is all talk unless it effects him.

A lot of people was let go off the team in preparation for the lockout and we went 2-14 while our coaching staff was then sent packing despite not having much to work with. Yeah he cares about winning, but its other things he care about more obviously. One is the NFL and other is just keeping the team in Charlotte

You do know the difference between football players and staff people, right?

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
