Jurassic World

Obviously movies are completely subjective and are very comparable to music and food when it comes to rating it. I generally despise CGI (overuse) but this wasn't terrible... Not great but not terrible. I did fall asleep during some of the dinosaur fighting. When CGI is overused it comes across like a cartoon for me. Cartoons+a dark room= me asleep. A positive about the movie was Chris Pratt. If you are a fan of his then you will like the movie . My rating - is a 5. A rating of 5 is watchable, mediocre and probably not worthy of seeing more than once. Without Chris Pratt I would give the movie a 3. He alone carried the movie IMHO.

Just left the theater.  I preface by disclosing the fact that i honestly had no interest in this movie whatsoever, but we went as a family and that was what was decided.

To keep this review short and sweet its pretty much what you'd expect.  Its reliant on its CGI fantasy action and doesn't really give you much more than what youd expect from this type of film.  Its very typical and kinda cheesy as well.  It was still somewhat enjoyable and some of the comedic intentions were relieving in the feeling that you just can't even pretend to take this movie seriously.  It is what it is... people looking to make major $$$ this summer.

If you are a Jurassic Park fan, you should like it. I enjoyed it as much as the first honestly. It wasn't better, but it was up there.

Jurassic World may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a film about dinosaurs in present time, what do you expect? Just enjoy it and live a little.

I liked it.  My only 2 gripes:

1) She was in high heels the whole freaking movie?  Outrunning the hybrid and all?

2) The attempted southern accents.  It was like they added just a bit to sound cool but didn't go full southern (Pratt and the Full Metal Jacket guy)

2.  was it Nicholas Cage in Con-air bad?

Saw it this weekend and thought it was terrible. The script and acting were some of the worst I have had to sit through. I honestly felt like I was watching Sharknado.

How it was possible to make the dinosaurs look less real than they did 20 years ago is beyond me. I love the Jurassic movies and went in thinking I would like this but was bored out of my mind. There were quite a few people that left early and I should have been one of them.

Saw it. Was entertained. Hated it.

Agree with JR. How did they manage to go twenty years and manage to actually make the dinosaurs look WORSE than in Jurassic Park.

Are you freaking kidding me? This was supposed to be an emotional scene. But how could you take it seriously when the apatosaurus looks as convincing as the cabbage patch doll they used in American Sniper?

The only redeeming quality was - no, shockingly, I'm not going to say Chris Pratt. That role was cardboard and could have been played by anyone with equal effectiveness - Jake Johnson. He was the only character in the movie with any dimension. And while I was generally guffawing and my wife and I were RiffTrax-ing the entire film (which no one seemed to mind BTW) I got two genuine belly-laughs out of Jake Johnson scenes. The failed kiss attempt, and the scene where Pratt knocks down all of his toy dinosaurs and he just gives that subtle sigh of utter defeat. It was an understated gag, and executed perfectly. In a movie laden with multi-million dollar special effects sequences, it's telling that those two genuine human moments were the two scenes I'll actually remember 5 years from now. Or even next month.

And back to the RiffTrax, my wife and I got a huge laugh from the whole theater when Claire fails to call the two boys in the gyroball, and we both, simultaneously yell at the screen, "TEXT THEM!"

Generally, I hated the premise because they fell into the horror movie sequel trap: Higher body count. So to do that, they made a serial killer dinosaur. To quote Chris Pratt's character, "It's a dinosaur. Wow enough." You don't need to turn the dinosaur into a psycho-killer just to make it entertaining. But if it only ate for sustenance like ever other JP dinosaur, the body count wouldn't have been 9 billion, or whatever the hell it ended up being.

Utter crap. I went in expecting a brainless visual spectacle and still walked out disappointed. Mainly because this is the highest grossing film of all time through the first 2 weeks, and it will break every box office record. This is the one. This is the benchmark studio execs will be trying to live up to for the next quarter century. So we can expect boatloads more crap. Great.

Eh. Complaining about CGI after going in knowing that it's going to be CGI heavy like everything else these days is a bit laughable.

If you're looking for practical effects like what was used in the early 90's, you should definitely stay away from the blockbuster type of films released today.

That being said, this is why I have a deeper appreciation for those films of many years ago that do in fact rely on those practical effects.

But I enjoyed this for what it was, a mindless escape where dinosaurs roam the earth in present time. Chris Pratt admittedly helped a lot.
