What do you need to run a West Coast offense?

Just to add, most everyone runs the same offenses. Its the wording that's different. If there's a few WC plays giving defenses problems, ALL teams will start using those plays. Every single team in the nfl runs that goaline play with the QB roll out passing a short slant to TE/RB on the same side, its roots are west coast. Why do they do it? ....cause it works! Its low risk and very hard to defend.

Its all on tape and if it works, everyone will add great plays to their playbook. I mean havnt you noticed all those cheap crossing aka offense pick plays? Two WRs line up close, go out pass five yards, one sets a screen(ala basketball) on the others DB...... and you have a open WR. Zone helps, but the guy setting the screen runs at the closest guy and gets in the way...... Seems like all teams are running this......except for panthers.......

Whoa, 80% of the time?

There is a lot of confuisn on what the WCO is.

Let's look at Walsh's 49ers in 1981 when they won their 1st Super Bowl, they ran the ball more than they passed it.

1984, another Lombardi, the same.

Their last Super Bowl under Walsh in 1988, same thing. More rushing attempts than passing attempts.

1989 under Seifert, same. Ya'll get the idea.

Now the League is much more passer friendly than it used to be but a WCO doesn't mean we're going pass happy.

Even today last year's Andy Reid Chiefs pass/run at about 55/45% ratio.

Hell, even Chuckie the year the Bucs won the SB passed/ran about 57/43% ratio.

Yeah, 80% was meant as sarcasm.

I understand 'stretch zone' is what they're running in Jacksonville too. I honestly wasn't aware Kubiak was using it, though I assumed zone blocking based on his scheme.

And although we haven't really discussed it, a zone scheme might go a long way toward fixing our vulnerability to 3-4 defenses.

Here's where I insert my obligatory Kyle Shanahan request.

What makes anyone think we have players to fit this?

And why not run something more explosive?

2011 we scored a lot. I don't get the lets just take our sweet ass time and play possession because we can't or have the coaches to even do that at a pro level

New England has a hybrid offense every week, you never know what they are going to do. They adapt to the game, if running works run it, if passing works pass it. Score points. Dont let up, don't give them a chance.

Well, the question in the OP was whether we do or not.
