What do you need to run a West Coast offense?

Cam would be fine in a WCO. Stew and Tolbert are both solid catching out of the backfield and can also pass block. Maybe add a quick shifty scat back.

Really need to add a shifty quick receiver. Have one with good straight line speed = Brown. All ready have KB who needs to polish his route running.

2 starting Tackles and another guard on the line. Pretty much revamp the entire Oline. (needed for the Panthers to successfully run anything)

Pretty much get an NFL caliber offensive line and we could run any system we'd like with the addition of a small piece here or there.

Friend of mine (full disclosure: non-Panther fan but watches the games because he lives here) who likes the WCO thinks that Philly Brown is actually better suited to be a number one receiver in that kind of system than Kelvin Benjamin.

Does he have a point?

Philly certainly has the potential for more YAC which is important in the WCO. To me Benjamin is more of a receiver/TE hybrid. He provides more match up problems because of his size and speed.

Cam is a poor fit for the WCO.

Talking about the Redskins brough this to mind. I always thought "Colt McCoy", on the right team, with proper coaching, would make a good WC QB and come at a reasonable price.

He is smart, has average to decent arm strengh and is very accurate. I realize he has a history of interceptions after he became an NFL QB but he seems to have moved beyond that. Just throwiing this out there for conversation..

Cam doesn't have the tools to be a WCO QB. The biggest asset one needs is accuracy and quick decision making, both of which are his weakness. He would benefit from being in a system that is similar to the one Gary Kubiak has in Baltimore. Run the football to set up play action and chuck it deep.

Gary Kubiak or any smart offensive mind would tweak their version of the WCO to accentuate Cams talent.so the real question is what are his attributes or strengths not weaknesses.also,i just don't buy it,that Cam can't make the short screen passes or any pass for that matter not with his arm strength.furthermore,Cams mobility would improve with the defense spread out more,

I agree that we need someone to accentuate Cam's talent (Strong arm and very mobile). However, being that the principle of ANY WCO is to opt for short passes in lieu of running, often times requiring that a QB show great anticipation by throwing the ball when the WR isn't open out of his route yet, I don't think that will be doing Cam any favors. He's shown a lack of anticipation, tendency to throw high, and inability to get through all of his reads his whole career. That's not debatable. It's just how he plays. If we want to play to his strengths, we need to run a system that uses the running game to set up the intermediate/deep play action pass. His arm strength and threat as a runner plays right in to an offense like that, and I believe he can become an Elite QB if it were to play out that way.

This is kind of pointless though, because we don't have the talent around him needed to run either of those offenses. We need a much better line and some more speed at receiver.
