Cam Newton Stat Trivia

Not necessarily a good thing..wish he would complete a few more short balls instead of trying to pick up 10-15 through the air for every pass.

He doesn't look at the drags and safety routes nearly enough. Not sure if that is bc Shula never has any outlets built in but it is clearly the biggest deficiency in Cam's game.

it's easy to use shula as a possibility to this problem (and it may be justified), but newton had the same problem when chud was oc.

I don't think its necessarily a good or bad stat. If you look at other QBs in the top 5 (Vick, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers), that's not exactly bad company. Although I don't like the lack of checkdowns in our offense, I think yards/completion indicates the degree of difficulty on the throws the QB is making - throwing a 15 yard deep in route is a lot more difficult than a WR screen. And part of it is Cam's playing style. He likes making plays down field and trying to keep plays alive.

But, along with that comes another downside of having a high YPC - what else do Vick, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, and Newton all have in common besides YPC?

All 4 of them get sacked a lot. (Yes, even Rodgers...look it up).
