Can't speak for everyone, but I think most folks oppose it based on two reasons...

1) The 'tallest midget' concept. It'd be embarrassing representing this pitiful division this year, and we'd probably get creamed.

2) People want the coaches fired, so they don't want them to have any accomplishment they can point to (laughable as it may be).

That being said, this is probably the more beneficial outcome.

In a completely objective "long term vs short term" analysis, yes it is legitimately true that the team would actually be better off if they lose every game they have left this season.

But as a fan, I can never cheer or hope for losses.

every division champ in any sport, on any level advances to the playoffs or tournament .this philosophy revolves around the ideology of having the geographical best compete for the championship, not just solely individual records.however,i feel like we might possibly be in a Mexican standoff with the Falcons and Saints for the best draft pick instead of the best record

If this really happened you can bet next year its top records overall from each league and adios division champs.

They won't do that, that would defeat the purpose of divisions. Why not just abolish conferences and take the top 12 teams at that point?

They'd likely just change it to make home teams be decided by record, not division win. That would be much more fair and protect the division system the NFL likes.
