Still in for Rivera~

I agree with Linville's last 2 posts...

I support this team, regardless of position or how you're doing. Always have. I was excited about Rivera, 9 previous interviews or not. Part of the NFLs greatest defense, took both defenses he coordinated to #1, what's not to like?

He is not HC material, right now. Who's to say that he can't take a gig or 2 to get it right? Or he maybe have Norv syndrome -great coordinator, horrible H,?

Either way, we as fans need more.. Players' frustrations say they want more... It's time to move on...

I don't expect Rivera to be fired, and frankly, I wouldn't be that upset if he is retained.  But if he keeps Shula on staff, I will be pissed.

I think Rivera has made enough big blunders and poor choices as HC, combined with his seeming inability to take responsibility for the team's mistakes, that I do not really like him as a HC.  That being said, given the circumstances, I expected the team to do poorly this year.

Shula, though, needs to go... and Ron needs a short leash.

I want the team to succeed above all else. If they rattle off 5 in a row and accomplish all of those things that we were happening, I will be happy. I trust Gettleman's ability in the draft. I am very confident in him thus far, but it is fair to say that I was confident in Rivera during his first 3 seasons here.

I really want him to pan out, I do. He's got to be aggressive like he said that he'd be during his first year. It's also his first tenure as a head coach and considering the hand he was dealt, he might be the guy. His decisions though this season have been bordering on unforgivable.

I am done with Shula though. His play calling and play design have been horrendous. As a QB coach, I could live with him if we had a turn around next season. Otherwise he needs to kick rocks.

If Skipper is the one deciding on which running back goes in, he needs to go.

If you think it's ok to give the ball back to an offense with White and Jones at WR with over a minute on the clock after Ryan just picked the defense apart on the previous drive, a defense that has consistently failed in that situation while Rivera has been here, then you simply aren't very smart.

I realize that I am no doubt in the minority for still believing in this coach.  I won't even say I am the 'silent majority'...but I believe in Ron.

Here is why:

I don't know if the play calling is his fault or Shula.  It seems to me that this is a critical area that needs to be better addressed.

Alot (everyone?) has jumped on him for his handling of playing for a field goal.  I will watch the game again - but what I saw was:

A kicker that hasnt missed under 50 yards.  Close to automatic as you get.  Why NOT trust your kicker?

As Cam says...hindsight is 50-50...   :)   Anyway...I didnt mind the play calling.  I think he would have been flambeyyed (s?) if they threw a pass and it was intercepted.

One big thing that you failed to mention is that even if Gano had made it, the Falcons still would have had plenty of time to go up the field and score the game winning field goal.  As a coach, you have to take that into account when you're calculating.  As such, at least to me, you have to try and get the first down.  Not only do you give your kicker a better shot at making it, but you ice the game if the kick is successful.

    • Lower floors than AR coming out, or lower floors than AR now?  Are you counting that he has proven to be a productive goal line back?  AR as a prospect had just about the lowest floor you can possibly have.  Probably the same as Milroe.  Dart's floor looks a lot closer to backup QB to me, but the issue is that his ceiling doesn't look too far from that either. It's crazy that teams are drafting scratch off lottery tickets at QB with 1st round picks.
