Still in for Rivera~

Graham Gano missed between 40-49 yards earlier in the season and missed between 40-49 2 times last year.

It is not anywhere close to being automatic. It was a moronic decision. I don't know how anyone can defend it.

Not only was the kick not automatic, the decision was also dumb because there was too much time left on the clock. We should have went for the 1st down on that 3rd down play, through the air. Cam was on a hot streak. You never fug with a streak. Even if Gano makes it I think ATL wins anyway. Nancy Boy had too much time on the clock to get back into FG range.

So that means he's missed on 16.7% of his attempts from 40 to 49 yards. In my book, that is a greater number than the 12% you cite as the likelihood of a negative play with Newton dropping back.

Also consider that kickers are more likely to miss from 46 than 40, so the odds are even more unequal. As a matter of fact, Gano's miss rate overall this year is 18.2 %.

How telling is it that you try to gloss over his success % by citing the number 5 out of 6...that is classic TonyN.

What is so hard to understand about this?

The running play has a chance of success, even with a stacked box.

That 12% chance of sack/ interception means you no longer have a shot at the field goal. If either of those results happen, the game is essentially over and you haven't even given your kicker a chance.

The really laughable thing about the Huddle outrage at Rivera's decision is the complete failure of the Panthers to execute on 3rd and 4th and manageable over the last several weeks while passing the football.

Time and time again, the Panthers have put the football in Newton's hands on 3rd and manageable and time and time again he has made questionable decisions on where to throw the football. He seems completely unwilling to give his underneath receivers a chance, preferring to toss up low percentage long passes.

There is no doubt in my mind at why Rivera and Shula decided to play conservatively. At this point, they don't trust their quarterback. You can hate on them all you want, but that's where it stands.

So I throw your beloved stats back at you and you run and hide.

It's okay, most of us expect nothing else.

This is what you, me, and every other football fan (regardless of team) has said, it was so obvious. It was a dumb, dumb move, and Ron will not take any blame for it, which is frustrating, and shows what kind of coach he is. Grrrrrr...

You'll just need to do a better job of explaining what stat I am hiding from.

Trying to correlate the potential 16.7 % chance of a Gano miss from 40 to 49, to the potential for a sack or interception is a red herring.

Gano wanted the left hash. Rivera trusted his kicker. He wanted to put Gano where Gano was comfortable.  You can bash Rivera for trusting Gano more than Newton all you want.

Anyone honestly defending that chicken poo decision making from Rivera in the Atlanta loss is either trolling or retarded.

In this case, TonyN fits both.

I  think a few select fans want to always defend the HC and coaching staff, even when it's obviously the  wrong thing to do. I feel this comes under the heading of of misplaced loyalty..

I hate to say it but Mike Tomlin could of squeezed an easy 3 more wins out of this team...easy.

Belechick and Andy Reid and maybe Pete Carrol could have. They do more with less than most.

KC will be back to back playoffs.

I would add the Harbaugh bros on that short list. But. No way we will ever know.

    • Lower floors than AR coming out, or lower floors than AR now?  Are you counting that he has proven to be a productive goal line back?  AR as a prospect had just about the lowest floor you can possibly have.  Probably the same as Milroe.  Dart's floor looks a lot closer to backup QB to me, but the issue is that his ceiling doesn't look too far from that either. It's crazy that teams are drafting scratch off lottery tickets at QB with 1st round picks.
