This is a case where both sides were right.

 

I agree with every word out of Avant's mouth. 

 

I agree with the decision to release him.  In the situation the Panthers are in, boat rockers are ship sinkers.  Here is my metaphor for the day:

 

You are the CEO of a fortune 500 company.  You made a bad decision that cost the company 1/16th of their assets, but it is really unclear who made the blunder or that is was not just bad circumstances. You played it safe and an aggressive competitor seized business from you due to your indecision, hesitation, and fear of failure.  Everyone in the company is upset while you attempt to put out the fires and get momentum going in the right direction.  Suddenly, an overpaid, high character mid-level manager goes to the board of directors and the stockholders and criticizes your decision.  Knowing that this is not only damaging because it sheds light on your mistake, it also looks bad because the mid-level manager does not respect you--he does not value your leadership.  You are angry, upset, and fear being exposed as weak.  Everyone is now awaiting your response to the insubordinate, overpaid, high-character, middle-manager.  You decide to be strong, and rid the company of the infidel, making an example of him and showing that you can actually make a tough decision-at least when its not your job on the line.  You really had no choice considering the situation you created.

 

When leaders start losing their grip on power and their hold on the people under them, they eliminate threats to their power.  They all do it.  Rivera is showing the classic signs of losing his reign over BOA.

Honestly, who even cares why he got cut, he wasn't doing anything and people were talking about benching him anyway. doesn't matter if you're a player or a coach, you don't call out your team to the media. so no i don't think 'it took balls to say that,' its a mistake on any player's part and especially his since he has such a nice rep as a vet. say that ron can't call his players out, fine, but avant has been expendable and we can replace him now with a better player in philly. rivera has to stay out the season and if he's the problem then i hope he goes after the season ends.

 

find a better thing to raise pitchforks over. its jason avant, not steve smith.

Of course Avant's comments contributed to his release. And of course the staff is not going to admit it.

 

You don't let the inmates run the asylum. Ever. End of story. Interesting that the rest of the NFL isn't clamoring to sign Avant and that he has apparently decided to clam-up on the criticism of his former coaches. Shutting his mouth and performing is the only way he has a chance at staying in the league.

 

The real story in the Avant release is what it says about the front office.

 

Cutting Avant puts some superficial egg on Gettleman's face...but Gettleman did it, in order to support Rivera and Rivera's staff.

 

Not much information leaks out of the GM's office, but Gettleman signed off on Rivera's extension. He warned everyone there was probably going to be a step back this season. Gettleman has been around the league long enough not to make decisions as if he were a pouting 12 year old girl who just lost her Justin Beiber tickets.

If it was about playing Philly they could have just benched him. Ron deserved to be called out for his bullshit. He's done this poo at least half a dozen times and directly cost us a game. He's a joke of a head coach.

goes to show this is why the team is so mute and sound like robots with all this foolish talk about next week and we're in it and i have to be better, and we have to play 60 minutes, and its 11 men , etc... 

 

Avant told the truth and that was best thing that happened to him in 12 weeks. Also goes to show RR and company are the biggest batch of liars in the league. hypocrites! the care about the image and getting it right but don't own up to their own flaws! fire everyone!

Ship sinkers? If this season was the Titanic, we hit the iceberg weeks ago. You can't cause the sinking of a ship that is already sinking.

 

We still can make the playoffs and the captain of the ship still has air in his lungs.  While I agree with you, you have to look at it from Rivera's perspective, which is what I was doing.

      People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
