You were right, any player with at least 4 years of experience is not subject to any kind of waiver rules. Players within these years are. Simple as that, we all know Corey Williams is over the 4 year mark but would Cleveland release him for nothing or hold on to him? Would it be worth a draft pick in that situation?

Depends on how much experience a guy has. Vested vets aren't subject to waivers.

You are correct. Thanks for finding that because the source I found said nothing about it. After looking a little bit further I found another source that mentioned the four year rule. But just like free agency the player has to have been on the team for four seasons. Practice squad and camp fodder does not count.

That would mean that a guy like Corey Williams would go straight to FA but a lot of the other names I've been hearing like the Giant and Titan players I don't think would be vested, although I could be wrong. It really all depends on who we would be looking at in a case by case situation.

In that case dosen't money become a issue? Since we don't have alot and other teams do won't that player look too get the most money? In that case we still lose. Maybe trade away picks and get him before we have competition for their services.

In every sense of the word, the Panthers literally and figuratively need a stop gap player.

No pro bowler is need. Just a good solid guy that knows what he is doing and from time to time take up a blocker or two.

I dont think they are any guys out there right now capable of that. Im just hoping we get lucky like with the Harris situation a few year ago. Im sure we had our eyes on some DTs before the season even started.

For the most part you are correct. Claiming a player off of waivers means you pick up the remainder of their current contract. And with trading for a player like Corey Williams you would pick up only his salary for the season. From my understanding we could fairly easily fit Williams current salary for this year under our cap because Cleveland would be responsible for all of the signing bonuses. Of course his cap hit would jump dramaticly next season. But if he was released and the Panthers had to compete to sign him I doubt they would be able to hit a new contract's figure under the cap.
