Coaches put the blame on players ALL THE TIME. This staff isn't fit for the challenge. They let Smitty go because he'd let em hear it. Avant says something (a model citizen) and they get their panties in a wad.

Sorry, I really liked Ron a lot but this is the sign of weakness. They don't have the f'n heart to hear some well deserved critique. Yeah, players don't execute but they need to take responsibility and don't act so b*tchy when the media, fans and now a good guy calls you on your lack balls and lack of coaching talent.

If we hadn't given Ron that extension, I would say you are likely correct, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's still here next season.

Like I said, 12 wins last season was a very bad thing for the Panthers long term.

DG was almost forced to hand him that money, even if he didn't want to do so.

However, even with that, I think he's gone after the season.

It also looks desperate, which is probably an accurate description of our coach at this point.

Doesn't change my opinion that its probably a good long term move for the team.  Especially if Rivera is not here next year, which is a definite possibility at this point.

I think Rivera has to go at this point.

Insubordination (and that is what it is) can't be tolerated by any leader in any time.  This is not to say he was wrong: he just took a stand and lost the gamble.  I learned a long time ago that right does not matter much in times of desperation.

I agree with Mr Scot--

BOTH the fact that Avant spoke out and Rivera axed him for it reflect a lack of respect for leadership and a desperate attempt to hold onto it.

It's not a major concern, just one I mentioned.  Damn you jump to extremes.

Maybe you just don't like Bersin, hey, I don't agree with it, but that's your choice man. It's just a tiny bit silly to say I'm jumping to extremes when you are resorting to citing preseason statistics for a guy who has done literally nothing in the regular season and couldn't crack the roster.

It's all good though, carry on.

If Gettleman approved this move it's a very bad sign that he will have rivera coming back next season.

I'm almost certainly clutching at straws but maybe Gettlemans just giving him enough rope and it's not a move that's really going to affect the season and by the end he gets the boot? Wishful thinking perhaps

Cary Williams spoke out about the eagles practice routine earlier this year. Ahmad Brooks took himself out of the game Sunday because he was mad about losing playing time to Aldon Smith. Both are still on their teams. The difference? They have real coaches who are leaders and not a pussy like Ron.

That's the argument--who the staff should've kept and I felt otherwise so just pointed it out.  Of course Bersin produced more, because we chose him over King.  What are you trying to say?

IMO, if it was the other way around, Bersin would be sitting on our PS because even Tampa wouldn't scoop him up and King would have similar numbers.  Neither are that great but one provides a deep threat option.

There are worse performers, but likely none of them are in a "leadership" role with such young (and important) players under them.

Yes, he was let go 1st and foremost for his comments, secondly for his poor play, and thirdly for DG to see younger players get reps.

It's not a bad football move, although it does sting.

I hear ya.

But the cold reality is: This is not a respected organization and coaching staff. So any message to KB or whoever would fall on deaf ears.

And regardless of the rationale, this move can't help the Panthers with free agents, player morale and respect, cause everyone knows what Avant said was true.

Sometimes organizations have to THINK before they make moves. You can't always be "Willy Nilly" due to some misbegotten principles.

Let's face it. Rivera's not an NFL Head Coach. I knew this from his first year. And everyone knows it now if the didn't before (except seemingly The Panther organization).

Why bet on the wrong horse?
