Jason Avant Cut

Fwiw, I think its a good move.  Even if the season is indeed over, we can find out what we have in PB for next year.  If he turns out to be a solid NFL receiver, then we don't need to spend much on the receiver group next year.  The next coaching staff will have some game film on him at least.

Because all that could have been done without cutting him.  They could have just benched him.

No doubt in my mind he was cut because he questioned the coaches.

True perhaps, but it doesn't negate anything I said.

Its a positive move, because we might as well find out what we have and bring up other younger players.

Why the consternation over Avant? He was a bum, still is. Means Philly sees the field more. I'm OK with that.

This^^^  He was terrible this year and will not be missed on the field.

This is just an excuse by The Huddle to rant and rage against the FO and coaches again.

Avant had not done anything on the field. This doesn't feel like that big of a deal to me.

It's the fact that he criticized the playcalling at the end of the Atlanta game and was cut for it.  It says the coaching staff has lost the team and there is no hope for the season.  While losing Avant himself isn't that big of a deal, the mere fact he was cut for that is huge.

It's not the player, it's the move.  The point could have been made by benching him.

The move signifies that there is a divide between the players and the coaches.  If a guy like Avant is questioning the staff, you know good and well there are others in that locker room who are venting.

This move does nothing but further distance the divide between the two.

Any hope of this team rallying during the bye is essentially gone, and i'd be surprised if most of these players aren't calling up their travel agents today and going ahead and booking that first week of January tropical vacation.

Agreed they could have benched him, but what would that have achieved?  Rather cut a guy not performing and bring up a young guy to evaluate.  This season is done....might as well take a look at some of your younger guys.

And YES....Harper should have his ass shown to the door.

Avant's comments, for reference:

“I’ve been in the league a long time. I know two things. You never

want to give a team a chance to win a game, with how much time

was left on the clock. And asking a kicker to make a 50-yard field

goal with the game on the line is rough sledding,” Avant said, via

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. “If that’s the only option, yes.

But if it’s not, you want to get as close as you can and think score

and play to score a touchdown. Because I’d rather the team have to

score a touchdown to win the game than to have to kick a field goal.

It’s just a lot different. It’s a 30-yard difference.”

We should engrave this words on a plaque and mount it to the wall of the locker room once Rivera and Shula are gone.

I wouldn't exactly say "nothing". He was a very well liked guy as well from what I understand.

With our franchise in it's current state, you can't only look at it from a personnel standpoint.

The problem with this is the message it sends to an already emotional locker room after your head coach made the decision to take the offense off the field this past Sunday with the chance to seal the win against a division rival in your own house. Where's the accountability?

Agreed....I'm over the coaching staff entirely, but Avant wasn't producing. If we weren't losing and some of these roster moves were working out then this wouldn't be an issue. Avant was getting the job done - let's try someone else.

I mean hell.....how many posts are there about how bad our receivers are? Now that they've made a move to get rid of one who wasn't producing and get some young guys out there we're all acting like we were all emotionally invested in him.
