NFL suspends Adrian Peterson for remainder of season

Ive got no problem with the suspension.  Even when you try to cast it in the light of double punishment.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that he beat a child.

to make sure you get that

He beat a child.

Imagine a starting NFL player beating your son/step-son/nephew and tell me you think that its just dicipline.

And Ray Rice isnt any better.

And as for the precedent and the ability for some koo koo to bring completely unsubstatiated charges on the eve of the Super Bowl, remember that AP was indited by a Grand Jury.  That means a goup of people were gathered to review the evidence and determine if in fact there was enough evidence to proceed to trial.  And it was only after the GJ indited him did the NFL put him on the exempt list.

Its not even hard to think that Hardy's bench trial was viewed in the same light as the Peterson GJ.  It reached a bar of minimum eveidence for prosecution to proceed that the NFL views it as above accused but less than guilty and hence suspended with pay.

The NFL didnt screw us or the Vikings or the Ravens on this.  Three lunkheads named Greg, Adrian, and Ray did.

1. The Commissioner's Exempt List does nothing but punish the team as long as the player is getting paid, but not allowed on the field.

2. His guilty plea was arranged with the State of Texas and, although the charges stemmed from a child abuse accusation, there is no mention of child abuse in the guilty verdict, although the league specifically cited child abuse as a reason for his suspension.

3. The suspension today means that Peterson, who was fined $4k as part of his guilty plea, is essentially being fined $4M by the league as this is his salary loss for the remainder of the season. Just a little disparity?

In summary, the league is:

* Punishing the team, not the player by allowing him to get paid not to play.

* Punishing the player again after the player has been punished by the court system.

* Making poo up as it plays out.

1.  Agreed.

2.  meh, we all know what he plead guilty to.

3.  who was he fined 4K by, the state of TX?  Does the state of TX pay AP millions of dollars to entertain the paying masses?

Summary.

*agree

*it's the league's prerogative to punish players who have been punished by the legal system.  AP's not the first person in the world to get convicted of a crime and then lose (in this case, get suspended) their job.

*again, their prerogative.  They're going to do what it takes to protect their brand and as a private company, can do so.  Can't say I blame them.  If I had an employee who brought negative attention to my business that would alienate customers, you bet he'd be fired/suspended.

The NFL is complete bullshit on this, they are making it up as they go.

@TomPelissero -- Goodell's letter outlines "several aggravating circumstances" including that Peterson has "shown no meaningful remorse for your conduct."

@JasonLaCanfora -- NFL notes its domestic violence policy of 6 games for 1st offense w/escalating discipline if a minor involved. Considers a switch a weapon

@AdamSchefter -- Adrian Peterson is appealing the suspension right away, per league source.

@JasonLaCanfora -- NFLPA: decision to suspend Peterson is another example of credibility gap that exists b/n agreements they make and actions they take.

@TomPelissero -- "The NFLPA will appeal this suspension and will demand that a neutral arbitrator oversee the appeal." So there you go.

@JasonLaCanfora -- NFL: Injury inflicted on your son includes emotional and physiological trauma to a child who suffers criminal abuse at hands of his father

@AlbertBreer -- The NFL and Peterson still waiting on a ruling on the player's grievance. If Peterson wins, he comes off the exempt list.

@AlbertBreer -- So if Peterson wins his grievance, he'll be off the list. And if his case is still in the appeal process, he'd be eligible to play Sunday.

@AlbertBreer -- Key piece of NFLPA statement: "An NFL executive told Adrian that his time on the Commissioner’s list would be considered as time served."

@AlbertBreer -- Response from NFL spokesman on Peterson being told time on list would be time served: "There were aggravating circumstances in this case. The time (Peterson) missed on paid leave was taken into account in the discipline.”

@AlbertBreer -- So with the league saying "The time (Peterson) missed on paid leave was taken into account" ... This adds up to a 15-game penalty.

So the NFL is now getting into the child psychology business?

In writing and in the hands of the NFLPA. How does the NFL put this in writing and then go back on their own statement?

Good. I assumed he would be back for the Carolina game with how things were playing out this year against us.

This, just like last year when Aldon Smith came back from his rehab. The cool thing is combined with last season Aldon missed 14 games. There were several DUI and gun charges, namely firing a gun in the air in an urban environment, all while Hardy will miss 15 games.
