Bruce Brewski's Cold Hard Facts:Training Camp Aug. 20

The concerning part about this: Apparently, Jake is the 'best' QB option the Panthers have. This also speaks volumes & shows the lack of confidence the Panthers have in their current 'backup QB's. You would think one of them could/would step up and give the Panthers something to consider. What a great opportunity for a young QB, but none of them appear to be up to the task.

I think the 'Tommy John' surgery was not as successful as they are saying. Jake has always been consistently inconsistent, but last season seem to be even more so.

We keep trotting him out because the staff doesn't see the need for a top notch QB. Let's be honest, we are a run-first team, a run-second team and a run-third team. And why not, with what we have on the OL and with our RB's? My issue with this is when the chips are down, we don't have anyone we can trust CONSISTENTLY to get us out of the hole. I'm gonna be honest, for our team we don't NEED a star QB, just a good team manager. Give me Trent Dilfer, give me Kerry Collins, that's really all we need.

In fact, the guy I wanted the most this offseason was Kurt Warner. Even though he is 195 years old!

Agreed on the run first team!!

And all the Jake took us to the Super Bowl is wrong..

Stephen Davis took Panthers to the SUPER BOWL,it was Davis that dominated that season.

Which afforded Jake an the team the opportunity to have the wins to be in the playoff

Yes Jake had a Great Super Bowl

But DAVIS was the reason the team got there

So instead of Davis we now have DeAngelo Williams, Jonathon Stewart, and a better offensive line. So why can't we win with Delhomme?

We can win. Heck, we went 12-4 with the bum. But, it doesn't put us in a good position to get there AND win. We just have to hope Jake can be in a hot streak. Tried that last year, didn't work.

My assertion is that if we simply had a more stable QB we would CONSISTENTLY be in the playoffs and in the hunt for a title. Not this up-and-down garbage that we experience.

I must say I am concerned although it is very early. But if Jake does go out and blow ass for a period of time, I want someone else to have a shot. You can say Jake is far and away the best QB on the roster, but we don't really know that. We don't know what McCown could do with the 1st team, or Moore really although we do know a little bit about him. You can say our back ups suck, but with the way Delhomme has been performing lately, put him on the second team you'd probably see similar if not worse results than Moore/McCown.

At least Moore will stand strong in the pocket and take shots, it seems like Jake will wait for the play to develop and then panic if its not there. Thats what it looks like at least, maybe thats just his game but I do have to hand it to Jake the man can play in the clutch I still think he can do it. Hopefully what he have seen of him so far is him just being vanilla and out of rhythm. You also have to consider what he's learning from the new QB coach.

Yes, this is my point exactly...only stated much better than I did. We don't need a QB who can win games (bringing up Drew Brees only confused the issue), we need one who won't lose them. Jake loses games with poor decisions and bad execution. No, he doesn't lose all games and has also show he can win them. But, 25% of the time last year he took a big dump on the field and we all got to roll around in it. It takes 4 playoff wins to win the super bowl. 1 in 4 means that Jake will almost certainly have one of his turds of a game at some point during the playoffs (and even with a bye it is still very likely), and we go home frustrated once again. The Ravens rode Dilfer to a super bowl win because he took care of the ball and let the rest of his team win the game. We need ball security at the very minimum if we want to win a super bowl, and not just talk about how we were in one once.

Some teams win in it only three games, but I get your point. Jake should become a game manager because we have a great running game

    • He has allowed 1 sack this season. His issue is penalties more than anything else. He is averaging 1 penalty per game. In general, we should have zero complaints about this OL unit. Especially considering we have been a bottom 16 unit for about 8 years now.

    • If he was a vet or had 3 years of full playing time in college, it would be different, I'd lean more on the side of caution.  But this is someone who now over the last 4 years, has really only played in games for one of them as he had 51 combined carries his first two years in college. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs reps and he needs them this year, he can't miss another year without meaningful game snaps. The knee is structurally sound at this point being a year out from injury and today's tech/rehab capabilities.  Sure his lack of game shape could lead to pulled muscles or something, but it's not going to put him at risk of a more serious injury to give him 10-15 carries right out of the gate. Also, we need see what he's got, to know if he's going to be able to handle a 3 down role next year before the offseason.  Because if he can, then we shouldn't be re-signing Hubbard as he's earned a decent contract from someone next year.   We can't give that out to a guy who will end up being a backup to someone on a rookie deal, it's a place we can save money to spend elsewhere for a few years, as we could get a much cheaper backup option in free agency or even draft someone else in like the 5th round to be his backup and really save money at the position.
