I admit it: I'm more relieved that Cam and the team showed out in the 4th quarter than I would've been with a win.

Premise One: We're done, done, done. We're fucking done. Forget all your gung-ho batman lunchbox bullshit about winning the division. We're done. We are 3-7-1 and the Vikings, Browns, and Saints are going to stomp mudholes in our supple, well-oiled sphincters. We're going to finish 5-10-1. Get over it.

Premise Two: With a 5-10-1 record, Rivera is going to lose his job. Gettleman will clean house. Many of you hate him for it already, and many of you will hate him for it in January, but he will wipe the slate clean on both sides of the ball and on both sides of the field. Offense and defense, players and coaches. He's going to assemble a new staff and separate the wheat from the chaff.

Based on those two premises:

Everyone left on the roster after Gettleman nukes it will be there because they earned it. And today, Cam Newton led this team on two game-winning drives in as many minutes in spite of being forced to play with a couple of WWII vets at receiver and their wives at offensive line. We didn't win, but I was sitting at the bar chugging IPAs and posting in the gameday thread and I saw every single idiot that called for Cam Newton to be benched and insisted that "he's done in Carolina lol" and sweet hot god damn if Cam Newton didn't open every one of those mouths and take a long piss down every one of those throats. It was fuging beautiful. I wanted to punch all of you in the crotch, but Cam effectively did it for me.

Conclusion:

Cam Newton will get the long-term contract he deserves in the offseason and come back in 2015 with professional-quality offensive line, and all of you will thank sweet heebus jeebus christ that that fourth quarter went down like that.

A-fuging-men.

We could easily still win this shytty division.

Either way, Stone face will be here next year collecting on his 15 million dollar contract.

Cam has made numerous 4th quarter comebacks only to have the defense shyt the bed late.

Fact>Premise

Were you a fan before last year? We could've been 10-6 in both seasons with a decent defense. This is not an anomaly. The x-factor...Greg Hardy.

Not everyone who said Cam will be gone says that for the same reason. I think he's gone, yes, but not because the team won't try to extend him. They will, but not at the amount Cam will be looking for. Secondly, Cam will want to test the market and get out of Charlotte. So let Cam piss down someone else's throat, because while I want him here, I believe he won't be for those reasons.

I have never agreed with you more and I thought the same thing after the game was over

I mean honestly Cam looked awful for a lot of that game. He flat out missed a couple guys on some basic throws. I'd be lying if I said those problems and the rising crescendo of criticism and the popular notion that the team has destroyed him David Carr style didn't spawn a few threads of doubt that wound through my head and made me wonder if my desire to see him succeed blinded me to what was happening on the field.

But no. Cam is not broken. Cam can still Cam. Cam is the future. Even though we lost, that became abundantly clear. It's a massive, massive relief.

Cam missed some throws yesterday I'm sure we can all agree on. He got hit like a truck on his first drop back so I'm sure he was a little gun shy. The offensive line played better yesterday. Once Cam started getting comfortable and trusting the offensive line magically he started hitting some passes. If the line can play that way week in and week out Cam will look fine. If they get beat like they did against Philly then Cam will look horrible. It goes hand and hand.

It really was a relief to see the team show some heart and regain some of their fight and toughness. It was great to see Cam regain some confidence. It really is such a damn shame that RR put the team is a very challenging situation to win the game. If yesterday had a happy ending then I truly believe it could have created some momentum. Alas, here we are....

I keep refreshing the forum page to see if Mike Shula just got fired but it looks like it's not going to happen

then again, we might be better off for the future keeping his inept ass on board until season's end so that the offense can meander to a top 5 pick for a new coaching staff

Cam also had some horrible passes. He's very inconsistent still in his 4th year. My guess is he plays out the 5th year option and them the new staff decides then.

Inconsistent QB play happens behind a shaky offensive line and a poor receiving corp... add in some highly questionable play calling and anyone would look bad.
