Are there any Rivera defenders left or are we 100% against him coming back?

Never said anything about jumping off and if you are implying I'm a fair weather fan that is comical. The two years prior to last year ron was a bad head coach. Last year he turned his career around when he broke out of his conservative ways. He has gone back to them this year. Week in and week out he makes mind boggling decisions. He struggles with clock mangement. He is awful with the challenge flag. He hasn't won a game after a bye in his career including the playoffs. And for some reason this year he picked up this habit where he throws players under the bus during his post game press conference. That is all the makings of a bad coach. Also since you seem to blame everything on the cap, well I have some bad news for you buddy. The cap isn't looking too friendly for us next year either.

Yes this entire staff needs to go.

All valid points, Wasn't calling you a fair weather fan, but our fanbase are complete fair weather fans. I agree with the challenge flag, and time management (see his first year against NO at home). I think there is a void of leadership in the locker room, not in the coaches office. This is what we lost with STEVE SMITH. I have been waiting for TD to step up, show some fire, ignite the fanbase and players even if we are playing for nothing. Say what you want but Gettleman has nailed the draft 2 years running, pretty much up to the 4th rounders. We are a young team, Ealy will develop, I loved seeing Philly Brown used as a decoy and a speed target. If we patch up our secondary and oline, there is no doubt we will have several successful years ahead of us. Its just hard for me to let go of last years defense. That was the best D we ever had, and that was with an below average secondary. For that reason, I would give them one more year, however replace shula. I do wonder how much of a difference our offense would be if Tolbert would have remained healthy? I guess that's why we throw 50+ yards on 3rd and 2. I think we will know much more after the bye, when we see Tolbert back, and Big Frank. There are plenty of nervous people worrying about CAM not wanting to play here, that's bullsh*t. Its all about that Oline, who showed some life in this game (minus the first play). I am not attacking you, just saying its not all doom and gloom, even with Rivera at the helm.

I'm not as worried about the play call before the FG. If I recall correctly we ran Stewart (thought it was DWILL), it forced ATL to burn a TO (did it?) and gave us a shot at a FG that Gano has been pretty money at his entire career.

99% of you disagree but I think a lot of teams would have done the same thing. Yes something more creative would have been great.

What I fault Rivera and the staff for is not having the team ready. We have just looked dull and listless. And lacking in fundamentals. Maybe Rivera has lost the team or just doesn't have the ability to motivate but he needs to figure it out. Too many times we have come out against a team that is running on all cylinders and we are still starting the engine.

Another reason I wouldn't mind Steve smith still here talking crap all the time. The most passion we have had all year is after a fight.

Maybe Josh Norman can take the helm.

Rivera will not be fired. I didn't like the play calling at the end of the game but I think it is due to lack of confidence in a crappy line. How times has Cam taken a sack and then lose enough yardage to be taken out of field goal range. Personally I would have keep the foot on the gas pedal and tried to get a TD or at least a first down so that the clock could be run out. I can see why Ron did what he did this offense sucks.

Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers

"Riverboat Ron" is currently in his fourth season in charge of the Panthers, and while his nickname and "success" on fourth-down calls last season earned him plenty of press, his team is struggling to produce a winning record for the third time in his tenure as the head coach. So when does the boat get a new captain?

Rivera, like Smith, is a defensive-minded head coach whose defense isn't very good. The Panthers currently rank 26th in the league according to our metrics, a total reversal from the dominant team we saw a year ago. Yes, there are a couple of key personnel changes, but there's still plenty of talent on that side of the ball, and there should be more production and efficiency from that group.

Rivera's offensive coordinator, Mike Shula, had to learn about the no-huddle offense from Cam Newton, according to a report from ESPN. This wouldn't surprise anyone who has watched Shula's previous offenses at work, as he's one of the most backwards, boring play callers in the NFL. Yet he's been with Rivera since his arrival in Carolina, and actually received a promotion to offensive coordinator after an actually innovative coach (Rob Chudzinski) left for Cleveland.

Rivera had one solid season (2013) but has otherwise failed to inspire any confidence that he'll be a year-in, year-out leader for a good football team. The Panthers have had a coach like this before, and they moved on pretty quickly...

Hot Seat Level: 1998 Dom Capers, who led the Panthers to 12 wins in their second season of existence but was otherwise not that great of a head coach and was fired after four seasons.
