Does Rivera have a chance at staying another year?

We had the 5th best Defense in NFL History last year. Think about that. I do agree on some of the ridiculous play calling, limiting running game in the second half on 3rd and short plays, however we are without Tolbert. Things change after the bye week tolbert will return and sometime this year we may see big Frank. I do hope Ron is back, and we can assemble that defense again. It was more fun to watch than the offense. Then the championships come.

Congrats to the OLine for being at least average today! Hardy, injures, and bad luck consumed our season, I feel really good about some of the players we currently have on our roster. Futures bright even in our current dark days. PS NO WAY CAM leaves Carolina Period!

There is no way Rivera is fired. He just got extended and JR isn't eating that money AND hiring a good coach. Part of the problem with the last go around was that we went cheap bc we were still paying John Fox.

This is gonna be Fox/Henning 2.0. Well fire the OC and the HC will get one more year. That is unless DG had an agreement with JR and the Rivera contract is written so that he can be fired without much recourse.

You know it's hard to gauge what JR will do

He pulled the trigger on Capers and on Siefert. There were extenuating circumstances with Fox

Let us remember this is a man who fired his own sons and got rid of Hurney who he regarded as family

For the good of Newton and the Panthers, Rivera needs to go. He was a bad hire then and he is a bad hire now

There is not one good, inventive or repeatable play this offense can do. Most teams have that go to play. The Panthers have playing for a field goal against the worst pass defense in the league

Newton needs someone to interact with him on game day not named Ken Dorsey and someone to challenge him and hold him accountable during the game. But give him the chance to win the game not lose it.

If they want a game manager they should have traded for Alex Smith

JR looks frail to me. You would think he would aggressively pursue the best available resource in the coaching ranks

As the weeks go by, it looks more like Rivera will be fired. Sad thing is that this is even a question. He has lost his team, as evident from Charles Johnson yelling at him and the whole team losing discipline in the game during the brawl. Not to mention last week throwing Cam under the bus.

If you're a billionaire NFL owner on the tail end of a limited life span, time for experiencing a championship is short.

This is not a situation where JR should worry about saving a few million dollars that he'll never need/miss.

Ron and company are an impediment to the ultimate goal of any NFL owner, they are coaching dead.

During the 2010 debacle, JR called me after an angry email to the team. I asked why he didn't fire Fox and his answer was because he didn't want to pay him to do nothing, and had he fired him in 2009, he would have had to pay two HCs , and fans were angry enough at the cost of going to games as it is. Heh. I'd be surprised if Rivera goes anywhere.

Fox only had a year left on his deal and had way more success on his resume'.

Every other coach the Panthers have fired had time left on his contract (heck, Capers had eight years).

And this isn't just a losing season. It's an embarrassing one. More to the point though, it's become clear Rivera has lost the team.

I doubt Richardson is willing to put up with three more years of this, especially knowing he's not gonna live forever.
