We can't keep Ron Rivera or Mike Shula heading into bye week after that

No. The first two runs were to goad the Falcons into burning timeouts. The third down run was pure idiocy. We should have played for the first down at that point. No field goal is automatic, but wouldn't the chances of winning improve if it were, say a 38 yarder with 31 seconds left vs. a 46 yarder with 90 seconds left?

I don't disagree we could have passed on that down, actually. That's the one thing I would have changed. But a run isn't really a bad call there since it allowed time to run off and could have been enough anyway.

Rivera cannot get the Panthers where we need to go. Everything has to be perfect or he needs to be coaching for his job (i.e. most of last year) for him to resemble a real NFL coach.

Looks like he didn't learn a thing from last year and somebody in the organization thought it was a good idea to extend his contract...wonderful! I pray JR doesn't stick us w/ this crap.

Scoring a TD would have left a little time on the clock plus putting pressure on them. Big percentage in winning

Let's say we throw deep on first down, and score a TD. They have two timeouts and 1:30 to score. Obviously that's not preferable.

Shouldn't have ran 3 consecutive times.  They knew it was coming.  They stacked the box.  The first down was ripe for the taking and Rivera got scared.....manifesting his own fear into reality.

A play fake might have been a good call, sure. But while you have the chance for a first down, you risk them sacking Cam and possibly taking you out of FG range.

Fire him, and get a damn offensive guy in here for HC.  Hasn't worked out for us the first 20 years...it's time to go a different route.  Damn, the Panthers make my head hurt. What coach in their right mind is going to settle for a 46-50 yd fg with 1:30+ left on the clock.  You get the first down, and then you can play for your fg if you want. Atleast get the yardage to about 35-40.

Gosh dang, Rivera is such a dummy.  Most of his career losses have probably come because of his boneheaded mistakes.

It's not a stupid decision, given that Gano is excellent from that range, it got the Falcons to waste their timeouts, and gave us enough time for another drive even if we failed provided our defense held. If we tried to pass, we might not have gotten any yardage, and the Falcons would have a minute left - with timeouts - to score.

The point is he played for the field goal and not the touch down or at least pick up a first down to make the kick easier. At the end of the day they played scared and got burned.
