Neither of them were that good in 2008, and what they're doing now has no effect on NE missing the playoffs that year. If we went 11-5 and missed the playoffs last year, people wouldn't say Rivera did a great job, now would they?

2008 has nothing to do with your original statement but look, Carolina goes 11-5 (or better) in their history fewer times than the Patriots have gone to the Super Bowl during the same time period. 

Rivera got a Coach of the year for doing that and a 1st round Playoff failure at home in Carolina so yeah, that's a great job (by our standards).
