Round 7 Pick 7: Michael Dyer, RB, Louisville (F)

lol last one is to reunite Cam with a national championship buddy.. pretty much best available for weapons we need. AJ Cann is going to be a solid pro for a long time.. love to have that upcoming leader on the line. Sammie Coats is a big speedy WR,, Mike D is built like a running back and can catch, and turn up the speed very quick. Kevin White has shut down great WR this year and seems to have that panther d mentality..

Lawdy, two young OGs that still could be good (Norwell, Turner) on the roster with gaping holes at OT and across from KB and you take an OG with our first pick?  I would not be happy with this draft at all, no offense.  I really strongly believe our first pick either needs to be Cooper or a top LT.  If NEITHER is available, and the #2 WR isn't worth it that high, and we can't trade back, then start looking at Safeties and CBs, or even DEs if we don't resign Hardy.

I've been kinda partial to FanSpeak's simulator since last year.  Decided to give them a whirl.  Here's the first draft results:

6: R1P6
WR AMARI COOPER
ALABAMA
38: R2P6
OT CAMERON ERVING
FLORIDA STATE
70: R3P6
S KARL JOSEPH
WEST VIRGINIA
102: R4P6
WR JUSTIN HARDY
EAST CAROLINA
134: R5P6
OT DARYL WILLIAMS
OKLAHOMA
166: R6P6
RB JONATHAN WILLIAMS
ARKANSAS
198: R7P6
OLB MICHAEL ORAKPO
TEXAS STATE

The double WR-OL pattern wasn't intentional (not the second combo anyway), but that's how the board fell at each of the picks.  I like the idea.

For my second attempt I wanted to see how it would fall if I went OT with the first pick, and loandbehold the Jets took Cooper the pick before ours so it made it easy.

6: R1P6
OT BRANDON SCHERFF
IOWA
38: R2P6
WR DORIAL GREEN-BECKHAM
MISSOURI
70: R3P6
WR RASHAD GREENE
FLORIDA STATE
102: R4P6
CB QUANDRE DIGGS
TEXAS
134: R5P6
OT DARYL WILLIAMS
OKLAHOMA
166: R6P6
S SAM CARTER
TCU
198: R7P6
OLB NORKEITHUS OTIS
NORTH CAROLINA

If DGB's character concerns are too great, Kevin White - WVU would be a good substitute at that pick.

And for my third and final draft I wanted to see what I'd do if I only took 1 WR, since I think we only really need 1.  It's just a big need for that 1.

6: R1P6
WR AMARI COOPER
ALABAMA
38: R2P6
RB MELVIN GORDON
WISCONSIN
70: R3P6
OT JAKE FISHER
OREGON
102: R4P6
CB DAMIAN SWANN
GEORGIA
134: R5P6
OT ERIC LEFELD
CINCINNATI
166: R6P6
DE HENRY ANDERSON
STANFORD
198: R7P6
S BRISON WILLIAMS
SOUTH CAROLINA

First thing that will jump out at people is Gordon being available in the 2nd.  Might not happen, but the first RB off the board in a few recent drafts has happened in the 2nd.  It's possible.  Also, I didn't address OT as highly as I would have liked to, but hopefully one of the two guys would be at least an upgrade to Bell.  (They probably could walk off their campuses right now onto the Panthers practice field and start right away...)  Also, I looked up Henry Anderson and I like the thought of getting him late.  He's a big guy, listed at 6'6 295 lbs and good stats.  Makes me think JJ Watt.  Obviously not the prospect Watt was, but he could be used in 3-4 looks or as an investment in a future switch if it's being thought about.

Haha no offense taken.. it was a bad draft and I took a few trades lol

I still think AJ Cann could take over Amini with Norwell spelling Turner and Cann

a few stud RBs in this class, but as long as were stuck w Stew and Deangellos contracts no way we could waste a pick on one.

Really hope DG takes a look at big schools with big players in big conferences. Do we have any extra picks this year? Or missing any picks?

We might get a comp pick or two.  No trades have either taken from nor given us picks.  And I definitely agree about the big school part.  I'm sick and tired of the Silatolus, Kugbilas, Armanti Edwards, etc.  Pick guys that have shown they can play with the big boys.

I think we should trade our first round pick.  It's clear that GM wants to build this team as cheap as possible, which means we need to go heavy in the draft.  This year's draft seems to be deep in the early rounds, but after about the 4th round, the talent level drops off a bit.  Trading our first round pick could be beneficial.  Plus, we should be given some compensatory picks this year as well.
