Any Capologists Out There That Can Explain CJ's Contract

CJ will look a lot better with a top rated rusher opposite of him. Dave may tinker with his CJ's contract some, enough to move around 5mil, however, he will play out his contract! Being cut would benefit CJ and hurt u, s we may as well swallow that pill for another year or 2.

I have to agree here if the topic is 2015, it makes no real sense to cut him, but in 2016, different story, the way I see it--unless DG does some tinkering.

For the record, The Jake Delhomme deal, the Williams and Stewart "investment", and the CJ deal are the main reason we are in this mess.  The Jake deal seemed to trigger Marty's madness.  It was beyond stupid.

Think Jordan Gross, Beason, Smitty.  I think CJ and Kalil are endangered species, if recent history holds serve.

Gettlemen wants a clean slate--his players, his contracts.  I don't blame him, really.  Look how many of Hurney's deals are underperforming their contracts--ALL of them--even Kalil this year to a lesser degree.

I just said this way earlier in the year

And got bashed

I never said they weren't good players. I said NONE of them was having a big impact on the game, and that includes Luke too. Running around getting 20 tackles per game but your defense giving up 30 and 400 yards of offense is meaningless. Get turnovers. Get some stops

The $4m of dead money in 2016 is part of the $14m of dead money in 2015.  If you cut him and absorb the $14m in 2015 there will be no dead money in 2016.

Cap hit if he stays:   2015 - $20m ----- 2016 - $15m

Cap hit if he is cut:   2015 - $14m ----- 2016 -    0

As you see we would save $6m in 2015 and $15m in 2016.

If you cut a player after June 1 you can spread the dead money over two years.  Teams are also allowed to designate 2 players as June 1st cuts before June 1.  One mistake I often see on this forum is people split the dead money evenly between the 2 years.  Actually the dead money of the current year hits the books and the remaining dead money accelerates into the following year.  For example his 2015 dead money would be $10m and the following year would be $4m.

Cap hit if he stays:                    2015 - $20m ------ 2016 - $15m

Cap hit if cut post June 1st:      2015 - $10m ------ 2016 - $4m

In this situation we would save $10m in 2015 and $11m in 2016.

Thank you kindly for this explanation.  I agree that it would be wiser for us to keep him through '15 and then cut him loose in '16.  Hardy is def gone, IMO.  Damn you Hurney.

It all starts at the top with owner, Jerry Richardson. He sat around with his finger up his rear while Hurney created this mess. I dislike Jerry Jones but there's no way he would have let this happened to a team he owned. The same could be said for most of the other NFL team owners,.Further proof why the Panthers have never had back to back winning seasons.

I hope I am not misreading your comment--if so, this could all be wrong---

We can agree that Gettlemen wants a clean slate--I think Luke has a low contract and he will build the defense around him.  Starr and KK were drafted to support and protect him.  With Davis getting old and the SLB position not an area of priority, the defensive backfield has to be upgraded and I would bet that Benwikere is the first piece to that puzzle.  I am looking for S and CB this offseason.

If CJ needs another elite DE opposite him to be able to perform his job adequately by no means is he worth half the money he gets. Let him go when it benefits the team concerning the cap ie 2016. Let him go to his beloved ATL. If they'll have his underperforming a$$. Cause right now he's stealing money the way he's playing
