if his wife had maxed out the credit cards then that's probably the right thing to do

Hurney maxed out all the credit cards, put a second mortgage on the house, spent all the money in the bank account except for $8, got new credit cards just to make payments on the old ones and people wonder why we have a used 1998 Toyota Corolla in the driveway instead of a new Lamborghini.

Right.....but since it's been 2+ years since all that has happened everyone also thinks we should be completely rebounded by now.

We had 7 draft picks. Hurney didn’t take those away from us. Not to use any on an OT is mind-bogglingly incompetent. As for Steve Smith, we had to PAY HIM MILLIONS to cut him. The decision to cut him was retarded

the cap savings for cutting smith was $2 million actually.  every team in the league at one time or another "pays" a player to play somewhere else.  i don't know where this meme that it's this dumb thing that only the panthers have ever done comes from but i see it mentioned a lot.

the OT argument is just a rehash of the "gettledouche should have done SOMETHING!1" circle jerk.  non-specific and basically useless.  unless you wanted joel bitonio in the first (he's currently playing at guard) or the panthers to sell the house for jake matthews, greg robinson, or taylor lewan (which buttfugs us again in 2015) then you're talking cyrus kouandijo or morgan moses who have both been garbage.  oh yeah, and kelvin benjamin wouldn't be here either.

britt is the only other option that makes anything close to any kind of sense in the second, and he's getting played at right tackle right now.  neither of them are going to start at LT as rookies so we're still looking at the byron bell show there.  fabulous.

i don't even entertain the arguments for henderson and hurst.  yeah it's interesting that two former UDFAs in chandler and bell are too sorry to be considered starters but the solution for that problem is apparently either an UDFA rookie or a rookie 7th rounder.  neither are playing particularly well either.

The choice with smith was - keep him and pay 7 mil, then cut him in 2015 for another 6 mil hit (total cost 13 mil for one year) or take a 5 mil hit now and a 4 mil hit in 2015. Given his production in 2014 and his particular baggage, I think It was smart to rip off that band aid now.

As far as drafting an ot in the late rounds - would you rather have a  used corolla for 5 years and hope for the best or save up a year for when you can afford a lexus?

we probably could have squeezed in jared veldheer as a clear upgrade at LT.  that's about it.  his cap hit for the cardinals is $2.5 million iirc.

those of you clamoring for collins should know that if we brought him in steve would probably still be gone and we'd have the same slow, cheap WR corps.

Most of the free agent tackles that signed this offseason are overpaid and underperforming.

OT has to be addressed this off season but no one is going to convince me that anyone in either the draft or Free Agency was going to be significantly better.  I think this was Gettleman's dilemma.   Not that Bell and Chandler were the answers but why pay someone to come in that weren't that much better than Bell and Chandler.   Lost money if you as me.

Go Panthers

I see where you are going in your post and you do have valid points. But people need to leave that notion alone about Greg Hardy. Yes he is a good player but he is not the whole reason why our defense has decline. You defense doesn't decline like that with one or two players gone. It's the team scheme that's failing and the players staying discipline and using correct fundamentals that's failing. That my friend falls on this coaching staff. Every team in the league has weakness but it's up to the coaches to hide them or exploit them. Our coaching staff can't do neither and that's the reason we won't go far with this team and coaching staff.

Actually I tend to think Hardy is an extremely important piece on our defense. He had the talent to take over a game. Something you dont find every day in this league. He made everyones job easier his linemates, the backers, and the DBs. Do I think we go back to being the #2 defense if he were to miraculously play again this season? No I do not, but I think we become a more consistent defense with him on the field and losing him the way we did is why I think we're having the monumental collapse the way we are. Everyone has their own opinion though.
