Breaking down that 4th & 1 play..

this was mentioned on twitter during the game.

stewart was open for the first down.

olsen was open for the touchdown.

on top of all that, with all the room on the left side of the field...even a gimpy newton could have scrambled behind stewart, used him as a blocker, and picked up the first down

it may have been a bad play called, but the execution was much much worse.

I fail to see how it was a bad play call with all the options you have just mentioned.

The play call on this was driving me crazy. Why the hell on 4th and 1 are you going SHOTGUN.

Go play action, suck up the linebackers, and then it's an easy completion to KB on the crossing route. With no threat of run and being 4th down the linebackers are going to jump all the short routes.

I would have preferred shotgun, Cam sneak. He always gets it cause of his size. Why that wasn't the play call is beyond me

Because you can equally run the RO fake to suck in the linebackers. I don't recall if we did it on that play though.

From what I remember there was no threat of a run of any kind and it allowed the LBers to sit on the short routes. The playcall made it really easy for the defense.

Why over think it?

QB sneak your 6'5" 250 lb qb.

Give it to Stewart who has been dragging people and running over people every time he gets the ball since he returned.

Run behind Norwell.  That dude is going to be a monster.  He get fantastic push in the run game.

Run Cam with everyone spread out like that.

Stew was open but he was still ~6-7 yards away from the marker, and the linebacker planted immediately towards stew when he leaked..

Olsen was not open for a touchdown, not even close.

Avant was the best option but even then he still had to gain ~2 yards when the LB on the short side was planting and headed for him as well. Cam probaby passed over him when he noticed that linebacker was headed strait towards him.

    • Shaq tore his achilles. I repeat, torn achilles. 10 year vet that didn't make it out of September two years running.  I think he deserves to stick around and prove it but I would not be counting on him being the player he was.
