Gettleman I strongly believe is looking to trade Newton in the offseason.  He didn't pick Newton, and he didn't pick Rivera.  Both these guys will be gone next year.  I hope everyone is prepared for Newton to be traded.

The reality is Rivera and company just aren't as good as last year's record made them look.  A lot of things went right last year and we ended up with a record that we wouldn't rightly have earned if not for some lucky bounces our way.

 

This year, the luck's run out, and we're seeing a more realistic representation of what this staff is like.

 

It's time to part ways with them and start over.  My only hope is that this debacle doesn't end up leaving Newton (or anyone else, for that matter) ruined beyond repair.

I thought that crowd was saying he sabotaged Cam to drive his contract price down to Alex Smith's type of deal.  Yet no, I don't believe in any conspiracy theory.  Now Gettleman just has some wriggle room in coming up with an excuse to get rid of him.  I think he wants to bring his own guy in.  As for my personal feelings about Cam, it's best if we did trade him.  He's done here in Carolina.

this thing that gets me is DG's comments at his entrance here: "I inherited a heck of a core! couldn't have asked for more" ...........what core other than Olsen, CJ, TD, and maybe Hardy. Yes Cam is not listed because DG also stated how he thinks a QB should be which does not fit Cam's style necessarily... so then, it was a setup all along and I hope RR is setup as well!

Yea this is not smart. Even Gettleman's incompetent self realizes you buy low and sell high.

 

If we were going to trade him we would have given him a supporting cast to make him look good. Much more likely, but still mouth breathing tin foil hat wearing logic, is that we are blowing up Cam's season to sign him on the cheap.

That's a good point.  Perhaps he's grown fond of Rivera.  Though it wasn't a long extension.  Just added a couple of years if I remember correctly.

I'm not the most homer of fans, but I think it's a bit silly how people are throwing around all of the conspiracy theories and Gettleman just doesn't care.  I mean, 2013 was his first season ffs, and when he got here, we were already over the cap!  He did some poo that he probably didn't want to do, to get us to $15 million under before the deadline.  Has he made mistakes?  Of course!  What GM, in the history of GM's, hasn't?  He struck gold on cheap FA's last season, and struck out on them this season.  It happens.  His two drafts have been pretty damn good, IMO.  I understand some of it, and some of it I don't, but we're all on the outside looking in.  The conspiracy stuff doesn't fly though.

I guess it's hard to say what G-man's strategy for this season was for sure.  We all know Cam isn't going to sign a cheap long term deal no matter how bad his season went.  Cam still has value even with this season, and teams will take into account the poor quality around him.  If we were to trade him, we could point to the fact Cam is young, he's broken records, and led his team to a division title the year before.  A team would bite on that, and ignore this season.
