What is the panthers' record with smith and his chipped shoulder wearing our jersey?

A lot damn better than it would have been without him.

What kind of question is this? You're blaming Smith for the Panthers not winning more games?

Do you expect him to go out there and get Ws all by himself? He sure as hell did his part in the Ws we did get when he was here.

so we'd have won more games with him here than not but it's unfair to bring up what the panthers actually did w/l wise when he was on the roster?

fug Steve Smith!

I never think I should say this to Steve but he kept being a bitch since he's released. I had some respect for this man even when he's a Raven. But he's just so fuging annoying about this.

Glad you would retire a Panther one day but now fug YOU STEVE. I LOVE MY PANTHERS AND YOU CAN EAT CRAP.

Well first of all I don't think that the panthers begin and end with Smith like a lot of people do. Our record has been all over the place with him, so we were never trending prestige.

Secondly that fire under his ass that apparently nobody else has, well there are a number of other players that show up to work on Sunday and play bell to bell. Olsen, Davis, and Kuechly come to mind. The reason there aren't enough is because that initiative has to come from our owner. JR is known for a lot of things. A sense of urgency was never one of them. He runs this team like people from north carolina drive: 0-60 in 15 minutes flat. Smith never did change the culture of that. He's only one player, after all. If you're looking for someone to blame because the team looks lax, it runs deeper than cutting Steve Smith. You need to look at our owner who never made winning the sole number one priority.

the airtight logic of smitty fanboys, everyone

Not counting 2001 (rookie year) or 2004 (injury), the Panthers were 91-85 with Smith. But, even narrowing it down to such a non-encompassing number is basically a derpa derp statistic. We had an ENTIRE SEASON with Jimmy Clausen as our leading Passer. We had Jake Delhomme, one of the most overrated QBs and overappreciated good guys ever. We had 97 year old Vinny Testaverde. DeShaun Foster led us in rushing for three consecutive years without crossing the 900 yard mark.

We can speculate either direction, but history tells us that Smith was our leading WR 10 out of the 13 years he was here. One of those years he was a rookie that didn't get time at the WR position. Another one he was hurt in the first game. Last year, he was in a Mike Shula led offense that is certainly piling up the points as we speak.

He caught over 1000 yards worth of offense seven out of 13 seasons, which is really seven out of 11 not counting his rookie or injury years. This is coming from outstanding perennial Pro Bowl legendary QBs Jake Delhomme and Vinny Testaverde. Sure, Cam lit it up with him 2/4 years, too, but Smitty was at the twilight of his career for the last two (and with Mike Shula calling the plays.)

We had exactly 4 thousand yard rushers during Smitty's 13 year career. Two of them in the same year (Williams and Stewart in 2009), Wiliams in 2008, and Davis in 2003. That's a lot of help from the run game. Especially when you consider that most of the Fox-era offense forced the run more often than not.

He also had to spend an entire season with Jimmy Clausen throwing him the ball.

Aside from the years he had Moose, he also never had a solid WR opposite from him.

So do I think he WAS our offense for most of his time here? Absolutely. Do I think he MADE Jake Delhomme? Absolutely. Do I think he might not have been the greatest teammate sometimes? Maybe not. But I never saw him stop running hard or playing hard or trying to get any junk that was thrown to him or making something out of nothing by making people miss.

Therefore, I speculate that we would have absolutely been worse without him during those 13 years. Write it off as "fanboy" logic all you want. You're the one letting an emotional situation make you disregard logic. That just makes you a hater.

I don't think the Panthers begin and end with Smith either, but he was honestly the face of our offense for over half of the Panthers' existence.

I agree wholeheartedly on the Olsen, Davis, Kuechly and JR statements. But my post was pointing more towards the JR side of things and I am glad you agree. I never said anything about wanting Smith here now or how we'd be doing if he was here. I just find it hilarious how someone can leave an organization and people so easily write them off as terrible. There are people to this day that will defend Jake Delhomme, especially the later-in-his-career Jake Delhomme. That's because they like him on some sort of imaginary personal level that they don't like Smith (Peppers falls into this category too) on. That is stupid.

Yet he still doesn't realize this is the kind of actions and behavior that got him a fast ticket out of Charlotte N.C. Smitty,I hope you enjoy all the nice weather in Baltimore after you take your $ 5 million vacation. :)

if this kind of action got him kicked then it was atotal farce.
