Hue Jackson

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Any particular reason?

I believe like a Norv Turner, Jackson's best destiny is as an OC.

Granted his one year as a HC was in Oakland but it didn't end pretty with the Jackson brokered trade for Carson Palmer and the late season collapse and ultimate firing once the new GM McKenzie was hired.

The Raiders imho have not had a competent Head Coach since Jon Gruden was at the helm. Yes, Bill Callahan lead the Raiders to the Super Bowl to face Gruden's Bucs the year after Gruden was "traded" to the Bucs but like Barry Switzer I think Callahan rode the previous HC's coat tails.

Any discussion of past Raider Head Coaches to possibly lead the Panthers should begin and end with Jon Gruden.

What I like about guys like that is what they lack in politeness they make up for in performance. Maybe I'm just bias because I'm like that myself, but guys like that sometimes care more not less about a team. Cam is not a A personality IMO and needs a guy like that to keep him going.

If we are going for hypothetical HC hire why settle on Jackson ... Why not go full on Malzhan?

Some would argue he has a better offensive mind and a winning track record.

One of our resident Auburn fans took on that idea in the "Gus Bus" thread.  His take was that Malzahn wouldn't transition to the pros very well.

But like I said elsewhere, Jackson isn't my first choice.  I posted this topic primarily because his name seems to come up a lot.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that we'll never have consistent success under Richardson. The NFL as a whole will always come first to him with his own franchise a distant second. I wanted Fox gone as bad as anyone, but what happened? He was immediately snatched up by a legit NFL franchise and took a The Golden Calf of Bristol led team to the playoffs. Then they signed a great QB and went to the Super Bowl. They look poised to potentially make another run this year. It pains me to admit it, but it doesn't matter who we have at GM, who we have at head coach, or who we have at QB, this franchise will never be a consistent winner until JR steps aside.

Rivera may not be fired. So I elect for Ron to hire Trestman this off season.

May not be.

But the premise of the thread is basically if he is, what's your take on Hue Jackson as a replacement option?

I'd love it if we could make Jackson the HC and OC and make Rivera the DC. When Rivera is focused only as a DC, he's the best in the league.

Yea, that's be sweet because you're right.  Rivera's track record as DC for making the most out of defenses is impeccable.  But we all know that wouldn't happen in a million years.

Dream Team is Jackson OC and Rivera DC. HC just needs to be a great motivator and decision maker. But this wont happen :(

Look at how well Fox is doing out in Denver. John Elway seems to have found a way to utilize Fox's talent for defense and at the same time prevent Fox from mucking up the offense with his archaic philosophy of "a punt is a good play and all I need is a game manager QB".

Carolina had Fox for almost a decade and never teamed him up with a decent OC, we're are now making the exact same mistake with Rivera.

Time for DG to take a page out of Elway's playbook.

Let Rivera keep the title and do what he does well on defense, find an OC that will maximize Cam's talents and give them carte blanche on offense. Fox seems to have accepted his more limited roll in Denver, Rivera might not like it at first, but it would keep him employed as a HC and might actually allow Carolina to experience a similar success on the field.

It's called Peyton Manning, something we don't have.

Well we had Fox that taped danced around every question and now we got Rivera who seems to dodge a bunch of questions too.

Abrasive might be fun.

If the man can make the Raiders 8-8 he could be our answer here.   I am not sure if Rivera is going to get axed but Jackson would be one that I would look at too.  If he can bring a good DC I would be content with giving him a try.   I want an offensive mind for this team.  Someone that can take advantage of Cam's unique abilities.
