Hue Jackson

I'd go back and look at his Raiders staff, but if I remember right he was already the OC on Tom Cable's staff and got promoted when Cable was let go.  So it'd be fairly safe to say that staff likely didn't necessarily reflect a lot of his own choices.

Yea, he was OC and got promoted when Cable got fired.  We'd need to look at who else in his sphere is looking at possibly getting let go or who would take a promotion to come over.  Who is his favorite position coach in Cincinnati who might come take an OC job?  Did he coach in college?  If so, who worked with him there?  Might he keep McDermott?  I know our defense is shitty right now, but I'm not convinced of how involved McDermott actually is in the defense.  I've heard all the coach speak and public statements, but I don't trust them to be telling the whole truth.  I don't think I'd actually want McDermott kept, but I'm not sure.

I'd love it if we could make Jackson the HC and OC and make Rivera the DC. When Rivera is focused only as a DC, he's the best in the league.

Yea, that's be sweet because you're right.  Rivera's track record as DC for making the most out of defenses is impeccable.  But we all know that wouldn't happen in a million years.

To be fair, you could say that about a lot of offensive minded HCs.

JB is right though.  That pretty much never happens.

The question for me would be whether the abrasive attitude is a positive or negative as a head coach. Or whether we need that kind of coach right now. If we had a bunch of talented players who were underachieving would he be the guy to light a fire under someone? do we need to shake things up or to develop the raw talent being brought in and made starters with little experience. What type of approach would be best? I typically don't go abrasive unless you have the track record of a guy like Bill Parcells and then you want him for a few years. do you think guys like Benjamin and Cam would respond to an abrasive guy.

That's kinda the operative question, I think.

Hardasses are great for a year or two.

Sometimes if you go from a players coach to tough coach the immediate results are impressive.

But they are also the guys that wear out their welcome bY year 3 or so, and if you face adversity can ruin a locker room.

I have always thought that the toughest part of coaching any sport is psychology. Most guys who get to the NFL or major college knows Xs and Os. Yes some better than others, but they already know Xs and Os inside and out for the most part. The hardest thing is knowing when to kick a player or team in the ass, and when to hug him and kiss him on the cheek.

It is even more important in professional sports when players aren't rotating every 4 to 5 years and many are rich superstars (sometimes in their own head)

So I guess all that diatribe is meant to say, I am not sure if Hue has that figured out yet.

But if we hired him I would jump on board pretty quickly. But if we go offensive minded coach I would like to see someone truly creative on offense

If he were the only decent choice then you go with it and hope for the best. I just hope that we could better. I fear that there might be a lot of folks who would pass on this team until we show that we are going to give a head coach the talent to win.

I admit Hue's not my first choice.

I'm more partial to Darrell Bevell and Tom Clements right now, but also kind of intrigued by Dave Toub or Brad Seely.

Bevell in particular strikes me as sort of a 'mad scientist' type (kinda like Payton).

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
