Is this worse than 2010?

In 2010, the Panthers had a lame-duck head coach that everyone knew would be out at the end of the season, barring a miraculous run to the playoffs.  They didn't have a QB, going so far to start Brian St. Pierre for a game who they literally pulled off the street.  The defense was good, but the offense was so bad that they were on the field a ridiculous amount of time.  Once the other team scored one TD, you knew the game was over.  The lowest moment was having Jake Delhomme and the Browns beat the Panthers on a John Kasay missed FG.

At least the fans knew the team would be bad that year.  We were prepared.  We knew the future would be better with a new coaching staff and new QB the next year.

But this season there is no hope.  The Panthers went through 4 years of building and aside from a flukey 2013 where everything broke right for them, this is not a good team top to bottom.  In fact I'd go so far to say this might be the worst team in the NFL right now.  Maybe even the worst Panthers team ever.  Hell, the winless Raiders hung with the Broncos for one half of football.  The Eagles had the game won after 4 minutes last night.  5 of the 6 losses this year have been blowouts...when you have one of the most talented QB's in the history of the game, the reigning defensive player of the year, and the reigning coach of the year, you should NOT be getting blown out every game.

Is this worse than 2010?  Yes.

It feels like a Jake Delhomme meltdown game, every game this year. Just not a good product on the field.

I agree, this has more a AZ - early 2009 feel to it. Plays out different but the meltdowns at least are more train wreck style entertainment than Clausen ball

You could argue that it is.

At least in 2010, we knew the head coach wasn't coming back the next year.

And while I firmly believe Rivera will be fired after this season, it's definitely not a lock.

Ugh I'm pretty sure they will rattle off a few meaningless wins at the end of the year and Rivera will be like "we're trending up" and get another season.  At least in 2011 and 2012 he had a young QB that was still developing, and the teams were in almost every game they played.  This year they're just getting blown out every game.  You can't keep a coach the players have clearly quit on.

I don't think it'll be enough.

This isn't just a losing season.  It's an embarrassing season.  And it's pretty clear that Rivera has indeed lost the team.  Plus it's not like he has a stellar resume' to fall back on.  Last year was his only winning season and even there he was embarrassed in the playoffs.

Can't imagine him keeping his job in these circumstances.

If they have any hope of keeping/fixing Cam, they need to hire a offensive guru head coach.  A guy like Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton, Chip Kelly, etc.  A guy that can maximize Cam's talent and be in complete control of the team.  We saw the interview with Mark Sanchez during the game and not only how many talented minds they have on their offensive coaching staff but how in control Chip Kelly is of that offense.  The Panthers need that for Cam.

Darrell Bevell or Tom Clements.
