If you change OCs do you change style or philosophy

It seems many here think that changing OCs will go a long way to fix our problems and lots of names have been tossed out.  But like most threads lately the responses are emotional and not well thought out.  For example if you change an OC assuming many OCs will want to come here with this trainwreck, do you change philosophies as well.  And do we have the personnel to run that scheme.  Would the OC have the ability to change mindsets and approaches to fit the personnel or would they be like Mahzahn who is a one trick pony who would try and fit the personnel to his style instead of the other way around. And would a guy like Gus be good long term for Cam if he runs him 25 times a game like he did in college?

Would we go to a WCO or to a Erhardt Perkins offense.  Given the investment in our running backs would we de-emphasize the running game for more of a WCO passing attack or use a spread offense like Kelly.   If we go with the spread do we continue with the zone read philosophy that Kelly uses or the air raid offense developed by Hal Mumme almost 30 years ago.

Next do we have the personnel to run that scheme.  Will guys like Brandon Williams and Tolbert for example fit into an offense that uses no huddle, has 3 or 4 wideouts and uses the pass to set up the run instead of the other way around, Our offensive line seems to made up of big guys who are brawlers and not guys good in pass defense.  And if we suddenly made a change would we be able to find enough guys to replace who we have given that more teams are going to a spread type look and the emphasis on quicker smaller guys who can zone block and they are harder to find.  Are our receivers good with YAC necessary in a spread of WCO system.  Is Benjamin even good with running after the catch and getting open quickly instead of needing time to get open given he is not quick off the line.

Do we have the Sproles kind of quick back or we stuck with Stewart who looks powerful but slow this year.

Show me that some of you know football and are capable of more than Shula sucks. Besides how long can you bitch every week about the same thing when we get blown out repeatedly.

Im a fan of ball control and in theory Shula understands that part of it. However, he lacks the ability to make the solid calls in the red zone and on 2nd and long. Ill excuse the draws amd screens on 3rd and long because hes obviously playing the game of inches to make the punt better. I do think we need to move on from him but, as to who would replace him your guess is as good as mine.

Put yourself in Rivera's shoes and say he feels compelled to make a change.  Do you bring in someone who already has the same philosophy but you think is more creative or you do you change philosophies.  What if you think that our O line will continue to suck, do you bring in an WCO which doesn't rely on a great line or go to a spread because Cam seems best in that style.  Then who is available and what changes in personnel would we need to make.  These are all things that going into changing an OC which may not be as easy as just firing him.  Would it take a new OC a few years to implement his system and does Rivera have a couple of years at this point.

Actually that is part of the problem, what offense is this?

My issue is they don't have talent or consistent talent to be able to do anything well in any offensive set

It is personnel and undefined scheme and they best figure out what they are before next years draft,

There needs to be a great mind in that OC position immediately after this season ends and redo this roster

I only say end of year because the Panthers do not make mid season changes.

Newton might actually be better suited to a West Coast offense at this point.

At the very least I might switch to an Earhardt-Perkins system.

Since you have a pretty good handle on coaches  and philosophy if we went to a WCO who is available that would want to switch to us given the fact we are not one to spend money, are in cap hell and typically spend more money on defense than offense?

I don't give a damn about Rivera

Open the checkbook and hire away a good to great OC and let him be coach in waiting if necessary

The Panthers have nothing to lose at this point

There are no quick fixes for this quagmire

exactly what good or great OC would want a lateral move to come to the Panthers to maybe get a head coach job in a few years and have to build the offense on a shoestring budget with our cap issues.
