Here's what the garbage time stats tell me.

I kind of doubt that Newton wants his only viable deep threat to be Jerricho Cotchery at this point, lol.

Hell, the only true speed WR we have right now is an undrafted rookie who hasn't even been activated the last few games.

Oh no doubt... Cam I'm sure wants somebody that can... you know... run... like, kind of fast.

I just want to know if these plays are called/designed for Cam to throw to a particular receiver or what?

I suspect it's a combination of Cam rushing his throws, making poor decisions at times and plays being called that aren't appropriate for what the defense is playing.

Newton has forced some passes. But he's also had a number of nice throws, all of which occurred when he actually had a pocket to work with. That last line is the main factor. Defenses are getting pressure with a 3 man rush. What's our answer? Long developing routes of course!

Agree.  There are reports now that his right foot is bothering him bc he's compensating for his left ankle... which is probably why he's arm throwing so much.

It certainly doesn't seem like Shula knows how to utilize him now that he's hurt.  Cam's athletic ability was masking a lot of Shula's dumbness before.

They did start out targetting Olsen.  He had like 70something yards in the first half.  One would have to assume the Eagles just started focusing on taking Olsen out of the game, like when he was double covered on that 4th down throw to Cotchery or whoever it was toward the end zone.

Unfortunately, Shula isn't the only coach getting by on Newton's athletic ability. Rivera would have been fired 2 years ago if not for that.

We drafted a quarterback #1 overall, and hired a coaching staff completely inept at developing a quarterback long term.

Since 2011 we've been bringing in coaches who have either been passed over numerous times, demoted, fired, or never even coached before. Think about that for a minute, and then think about why we are where we are, and how ridiculous the idea of Newton being our problem is.

But the Huddle told me all offseason that we were fine at WR! There were some that even said this before we drafted KB

I agree with Webb though. His catch last night was the best by any WR not named KB this season.

Jason Avant never dropped anything till he got here.

Likewise, Jerricho Cotchery was a reliable receiver, especially in the Red Zone.

I don't think either of them is very good at catching fireball passes, and that's a lot of what Newton throws (especially lately).

I think it might be a reverse of the old Herb Brooks line.  Maybe what we need isn't so much the best players but the right players, and that means getting guys who are good at catching hard thrown passes.

I wasn't concerned about their hands prior to the season. I was concerned with their age and lack of speed. These guys get no separation.

We also have both guys 1 spot higher on the depth chart than they should be. Cotchery is a 3 at the very best and Avant is a 4 at best. Watching Cotchery run double moves down the sidelines is painful, but that's not really on Cotchery. It's on the staff for again not addressing a position properly.

They weren't speed guys, but they were known to fight for the ball and catch whatever was thrown to them.

Sadly, that isn't happening, and I think it's because they're not well-suited to catching fireball passes.

On the plus side, it's not like we paid those guys a boatload of cash either.

We built a Coryell receiving corps this past offseason, or at least partially built it.

We didn't build a Coryell O-Line though, and without that, the receiving corps is useless.
