Hornets Vs Lakers Game Thread

Kemba was 7-11 shooting. He is a scoring point guard. That's a good game for him.

I'll gladly blame Kemba when he has a bad game, but this was not one of them.

On the flip side, Al went 10-23 with a -21. He is the offense. If he does not have a good game, it will be very difficult for us to beat anybody.

was not talking about tonight specifically.

I am not calling anyone in particular out because I am like this too. But I swear if 90% of us were GMs we would have teams like the Paul Westhead Loyola Marymount teams.

We would have a bunch of guys that score a lot no matter what else they did or did not bring to the team otherwise.

Not sure how successful we would be but we would average about 115 points a game

Would like to see higher paced, transition O, rather than the half court big al O. Felt like the Lakers slowed down the game in the 2nd half.

Have to stay aggressive with ball pressure from kemba, Lance and mkg leading to easy buckets.

It's going to take some time to find balance between the 2, Lance will get his shot, and get into mid season shape.

Cmon Teeray there is some middle ground between playing no defense and shooting 21% from 3. We cannot make threes and teams are taking advantage of it on D.

I would be more worried about letting the Lakers shoot 51% and score 60+ points in second half.

Oh, so we'd be fun to watch offensively?

Nah, can't have fun offenses in Charlotte sports. Heck, I tried convincing myself Shula was an upgrade over Chud last year...

(I do agree though, the issue was defense, not offense.)

28 assists to 15 assists.

Hornets have only one guy that passes the ball. Last year that came from McBob and created spacing. This year is comes from the 2 spot.

Way too much ISO game going on.

I'm seriously wondering if we should move Lance to the 3 spot and play MKG some at the 4 in some match ups. Despite marvin williams having a good game last night, he's been awful all year. The team took a serious downgrade at the 4 in the offseason.

Perhaps it's a function of the offense itself. They're still scoring at about the same clip as when McBob was here.

It's not like they are trying to iso. The first move in the offense is to always look for Al. The problem is teams are now ganging up on Al. Once he takes the ball and starts making post moves I'm pretty sure that nullifies the pass as a possible assist since at that point it's pretty much Iso Al.

What I've seen this season is a very predictable offense with very little room for error and very few options in the half-court. It's like once Al gets double teamed no one has any idea where to go with a second option and Al struggles to pass out of the double teams.

I appreciate how Clifford turned around the fortunes of the franchise in one season with his defense, but maybe he needs an offensive coordinator as an assistant. There are enough players on this roster with offensive skills that we should be able to get more than 92 points against a team that came in giving up an average of 118.

Yeah.  I don't know.  I haven't looked up the scoring numbers from year over year, but the Hornets numbers might be inflated some by playing 3 OT periods.

And I was expecting more out of this offense.  MKG has improved his scoring numbers.  The combined production out of the SG spot is better (because Neal is playing so well).  Big Al is on a phenomenal pace.

Ultimately, I think this team needs better passers and shooters.  They don't have a distribute first PG that is capable of driving people open and they don't have good shooters on the court.  Each of the 1-3 starting spots are occupied by sub-standard shooters.

There is no reason why Big Al can't be pushing the ball back out of the paint to shooters like Orlando had years ago with Dwightmare, if he only had the shooters.

I would love the hell out of it. And we wouldn't average 115. We'd average 125 and give up 135.

Ah, LMU. Favorite team ever as far as a year goes.
