Fans gloom and doom after one preseason game still amazes me.

I would like to see all the message boards of other teams after the first preseason loss and see thier reaction.

Its called fans.

That comes with the territory.

We're no different than any other fanbase. Here, take a look...

I don't think anyone thinks wins or losses or stats matter.....but the weakness and strengths shown in preaseson do tend to cross over. The Panther D was very weak the 2nd half of last year....so far they appear just as bad or worse....and that is a cause for concern.

I agree with some of what has been said except for a few things...

1) Nobody cares about the wins and losses so stop the comparisons with the Lions being 4-0 last year or how the Observer ran a story about when the panthers were 2-2 in two of the years we went to the playoffs. The wins and losses are a non issue and it irritates me that people keep using that as an arguement to preseason's unimportance.

2) Yeah we were vanilla but believe me they were too. They didn't gameplan any more than we did, and they ran some pretty basic stuff at us, Coughlin is much smarter than that.

3) I think people are most upset with the run defense and how the offense just didn't seem to click. I watched all the preseason games prior to this and to be honest there were much sharper teams in their first preseason game than we were, but also some that were much worse.

With all that said I agree that the doom and gloom is pretty ridiculous. People who are angry at Gamble for that missed tackle are crazy and Godfrey missed a few tackles but its early and he is better in coverage anyway. Jarrett really never got a chance since Jake was out of synch and the special teams always gives up a big return or two in the preseason. Then there is the other side of the coversation, Jeremy Leman looked good and may make the roster but he isn't the savior at linebacker. I even heard people praising Beavers and Monk who each had one catch.

What we should take away from this game is that we had no injuries, the 1st team offense ran the ball well, Nick Hayden is a chump, and the backups played hard, we have a long way to go before the beginning of the season.

:iagree:

The run defense does scare me, even if it is only the 1st preseason game. The Gaints had both starting gaurds out and still ran the ball with ease. Overall I was just happy to watch the Panthers play some football!

Wins and losses mean nothing in pre-season.

Some are worried about WR...I think we will be ok.

I, like most is horrified by our DT problem. I dont see how we are going to get anywhere if we dont fix that problem. Not only do we not have anyone to clog up the front, this will have a huge impact on Beason's effectiveness.

DT and lack of depth is what really scares me the most.

true.

the Giants' depth was superior to ours and it showed whether or not we kept most of the playbook shut, plus, DT is so thin you could see right through Hayden, and Damione Lewis is coming off shoulder surgery. We need to get some guys that are going to plug up the middle and keep the guards off Beason, the keystone to this defense needs to be free in order to work for us, otherwise every game is going to look somewhat like the Giants game last year, not so much in volume of yards but just getting gashed by the running game in general.

People aren't concerned because we lost the game. They're concerned because the starters did not look very good at all. How hard is that to comprehend before posting "Winning in preseason doesn't mean anything" for the 20 millionth time?

Sure, Jake can settle down, and he'll have Smitty, and we can fix the defense... but all that remains to be seen. What we have seen is an uncomfortable Jake and a very poor defense.

There is only 1 thing that concerns me about what I saw in that game: 4 carries for 41 yards and a TD against our starting defensive unit - and the Giants didn't have their whole starting offensive line on the field.

I realize the Giants have a ridiculously good running game, but I don't care if it's pre-season, practice or pop-warner, you just can't let someone run it down your throat like that and that's not gonna change between now and the regular season unless we bring in some help at DT. I liked what I saw from Favorite, but he was playing against scrubs... need to see him play against a 1st team OL before I know what to think.

Last year we came out against the Giants in the 1st preseason game and punked them! We looked on fire. Went 12-4. The way we played Monday was totally different. I don't care how vanilla we were, we still couldn't tackle, our QB's couldn't hold on to the ball, and Jake did look out of sync. He missed a wide open Moore badly. And the DT situation is worse than I thought it would be. The last time I remember everyone on here complaining about how preseason games were nothing to worry about, we had a losing season. The wins in preseason really don't matter to me either, but we just looked pathetic. And does anyone else think that our players looked really small compared to the Giants? I'm afraid this team is going to get pushed around a lot. And the caliber of teams we will be playing this year will be just like what we saw Monday. We don't have any gimme's this year boys. Could be a bumpy ride.
