The ending really ignites my imagination. Since I was 12, I've been thinking maybe we're the ETs all along. In the sense that we've evolved beyond our organic bodies and mastered time and interdimensional travel. So the question I continuously ask myself on a daily basis is time truly linear AND is it always in constant flux without us even being aware?

If you can master the fifth and six dimensions you can go forwards and backwards in time.

Haven't seen the movie yet and haven't read the thread because I don't want to be too spoiled, but on the concepts of time travel and some sort of cyclical timeline for reality...

If you believe it is possible to travel into the future... Wouldn't that future be predetermined and already in existence? Would it be predetermined by the events taking place at the exact moment you left from, or would it not matter and the end result be the same? If the future IS predetermined, that would have some pretty big implications.

Me personally, I kinda believe it would be possible to travel back in time but not forward. I believe this because the past has already happened and past events have shaped our present. Another way to think about it is looking up at the night sky. Some of the stars we see aren't even there anymore, so you're looking back in time.

 

If time does somehow fold onto itself, then that would mean that the universe is finite and has a limited space for expansion. Things could exist in parallel universes and the potential could exist for intersecting universes. Time could be cyclical and everything and everyone is just a part of a huge recycling of energy and matter.

 

I enjoy thinking about stuff like this, and it really makes you realize how insignificant we really are.

Yeah, it is intriguing to say the least.

 

That brief video of NDT posted above touches on some time issues as well.

 

I think that time is just something we don't begin to understand yet.  Because of the very nature of time as a flow, and our innate perception of only one fleeting instance of it, it's hard for humans to think about it any differently than we perceive it currently.

Just came back from the IMAX showing. Great film. I thought the set up in the beginning was a little rushed. They didn't go whole lot into what was wrong with the planet. But I think they had a lot sht they had to cover so it was understandable. 

 

Definitely got a 2001 vibe but not quite as "alien" as the 2001 films were. I almost cried when he finally came back and saw his daughter. I felt those feels.
